Drs or not with ear discharge

My dd is 4 and she's had earache for the 2nd time this month - I say earache as the first time (though had a temp) got told it was 'a little pink' due to ear wax and not an infection and to try olive oil (which still to do as DD is refusing to let us go there).. Anyway, again, she's been very ill with earache with a temp of 39.6 at its peak over the past 3-4 days. Today she seems a little better (though she had a bad night again) - but she has had a lot of ear discharge particularly on her pillow each morning. She also seems VERY deaf. Even if she's 'on the mend' should I take her to the GP again? I'm concerned that she doesn't appear to hear very well and its been going on a while (though I know we'll get smack on the wrist re not using the olive oil but my daughter is very forthright and you can't force a child to allow you to put oil in their ear).
