Persistent night time vomiting

Really hoping somebody can shed some light as I have been getting increasingly worried!
4yo DD has had night time vomiting 10 times out of the past 17 nights. On a few occasions this has been accompanied with diarrhea but only at the same time as the vomiting so I think it could just be caused by how much her stomach is contracting. It's really violent and loud vomitting, last night's smelt the worst- very acidic. I took her to the GP on the two week mark and he said to wait if it Carries on past the two weeks, and to collect a stool sample from a loose stool only. Since then she has only been vomitting so I haven't been able to do this, and I have now managed to get a pre booked appointment for later in the week with our preferred doctor, in case it is still going on, at which point it will be the three full weeks mark, although I am hoping it will stop before then. It is only in the night time- usually around 4am, although a little earlier last night. After each round of vomitting she will sleep for about ten minutes before it starts again, and this carries on for around an hour. Most nights it's just very liquidised digested mush, sometimes it's just watery liquid. In the morning she is fine, and she eats and plays etc throughout the day. She has no temperature and doesn't complain of tummy pain.
I would really appreciate any help or views on this.

I wonder if its a food intolerance. quite common to get temporary lactose intolerance after a tummy bug. has she had a bug?
also might be worth googling FPIES

Thank you so much for your reply! A lot of children in her class have had a day or two of d&v recently, but this began as 5 nights of vomitting at around 4am for an hour only, and again the rest of the night and the whole day she would be fine so I'm not sure if it could have been started by the same bug as the rest of her class.
Had a quick google of FPIES is she too old to develop that as mostly seems to say infants? I've started a food diary today and will be ensuring no dairy for next few days in the hope that helps. It's just so strange that it's only at night and otherwise she is fine. We are all shattered !

Before this started she hadn't had any bugs or illnesses for some time, so it's qute confusing.

Feel really sorry for you all ,its worring and stressful all round .
How about trying a very light diet ,no fats or red meat for a few days and giving her little and often through the day so that she has plenty of time to digest everything before she goes to bed . Bananas, mashed apple white rice and plain toast is a good combination for irritated tummies .
Good luck .

I will give that a go to give her tummy a rest, thank you housewife19. We have three children but have never had anything prolonged like this before, with no clear cause. just wish I could take it from her!

ds has this ,turns out to be migraine attacks but reflux and food intolerances can cause it to.
try getting her to sleep upright.
ds got so use to it, he would take a bucket to bed - be sick in it if he couldn't make it to the toilet and see to himself - not bother waking us up.

he wasn't ill though, fine going to bed - wake up around 3am -vomit -then go back to sleep-
fine next morning ....until the night

Wfrances that is exactly what DD is like- did it go away itself or does your DS still get it? She had a good night last night so I'm praying it has ended now but she has had one or two good nights inbetween over the last two weeks so I will wait until there's been a few more before I will be more relaxed!

ds started around age 4/5 , hes now 11.
we stopped him eating tomato based foods as we noticed a pattern , every time he ate thing like that he would be sick.
after parties he would be sick.
odd occasion we went to the chippy he would be sick.
gp thought reflux-( as it occurred when lying down)
or intolerance to chemicals in party foods / tomatoes .
so we carried on with this for years, he would go months without being sick but then it would start again ,sometimes just 1 night ,sometimes 2/3/4 nights then nothing for a few months.

until august last year , he woke up blind, obviously admitted to hospital for tests ,including brain ct , and lumbar puncture , neurologist came to see him
we mentioned he was sick during sleep ,and he thought either seizures or migraine.
after more testing and more worrying symptoms, he couldnt move his left hand side , slurred speech ect. he been diagnosed with migraines.
the reason hes sick , build up of pressure ,being sick relieves it.
as his symptoms are so severe ,hes on preventative medication now = low dose of an anti epilepsy drug taken nightly -as its a sedative/appetite suppressant.
he hasnt had any symptoms at all since this drug, ( january)but we have to wait until 6 months without symptoms to know if it works .

you've all been through so much, that must have been so frightening. I hope the medication continues to help and keep it at bay. Did he get headaches or was it just the vomitting? I hope his sight and feeling has came back? Feel for you so much.
I will mention migraine to the GP if this carries on.

yes the sight and feeling came back, (should have mentioned that, sorry)
the only time he ever had a headache was after he lost feeling in his left
good luck at the gps.

Well it's still going on. Gp did urine sample which showed leukocytes and has given her antibiotics, she's also had blood taken so waiting for results from the sample and the blood test. Hoping we can get to the bottom of it soon.

Hi there. So Sorry to jump into this old thread and I'm new here! I'd just like to ask if you managed to get your daughters sickness sorted? My little girl has just turned one and persistently being sick at night. We are onto night 9 now and it's really only happening 1-3 hours after falling asleep at night. We've had 2 visits to the doctors and we are waiting to drop in a stool sample but only got the kit Friday. So I do hope she goes Monday so we can see if she has a stomach infection. I'm besides myself with worry, she's had one viral infection after the other and now this. Would a sickness bug last so long? Any help would be much appreciated. Ps she is still on formula not cows milk. Due to her only turning 1 last week and being poorly xx

Try getting her checked for epilepsy. I have seen a programme about a child suffering from vomiting at night, only once or twice to begin with then it got worse. Drs couldn't find anything wrong until a Dr undertook several tests all seemed normal until they did an EEG for a couple of nights while the child slept and noticed that every time she vomited, her brain waves went wild. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and after finding the right dose she has improved and hasn't had any vomiting for a while.
She may still have bouts but at least they know why.
Get her checked out it could be this causing the problem

Hi there. I'm currently going through the exact same thing with my 6 year old daughter. It started back at the beginning of Sept. One night at 4am vomiting on an empty stomach every hour til the morning. Then nothing for a week, until the exact same thing again. Again nothing for a week then another night of vomiting bile only. The doctor diagnosed abdominal migraines and prescribed anti sickness medication. This only proved to make things worse and the vomiting started occurring every night until she was admitted to hospital. Bloods and urine show nothing. Diagnosed as either an ulcer (very rare in children) or gastritis. Given a PPI and sent home. We saw an improvement for 5 days but sick again on Friday morning and reviewed again in hospital yesterday. Host of tests done again and I was assured it was only that we need to let the PPI work for longer. Unfortunately spent another night vomiting last night. Feel like I dont know where to turn now 😰
