Poorly 6month DS.

Is this a normal cold/flu type thing or do I need to take him to doctors?

DS is just over 6 months.

Snotty nose. Chesty cough. Sounds wheezy when he breathes.

He's not drinking hardly any milk, he'll have a couple of ounces and then be finished. If he has much more he vomits it up. (Once yesterday, twice day before). This morning he woke up after being asleep for 12 hours had two ounces and wouldn't take anymore. So when he went back to sleep I dream fed him 5 more.
Before this cold, he fed every 3 hours , 8-9 oz a time.

Diarrhoea. I've started weaning him over last two weeks so don't know if that's because of that big he's hardly eating anything so don't think so.

I've got cough medicine he was prescribed last time he had a cough, and got calpol, and a diff one for flu, got nose spray to clear him, and snuffle baby to put on chest.

He's a large baby so not worried about his weight or anything. I know he's going to lose some with diarrhoea and being off his milk but when is it time to go to doctors?
Don't want to go and waste their time if he's just got a cold and they can't do anything.

Wwyd?

Is he having wet nappies? Is he showing signs of breathing distress (pulling in at the tummy or neck, nostril flaring, increased breathing rate, blue lips) if he is having any of those I would see a dr ASAP (possibly a+e) I think I'd want the wheezing checked out, I find it hard to tell if it's actual wheezing or just snotty breathing when my kids are ill.

My dc are both ill at the moment, my 2 year old has had diarrhea and the dr said it was from swallowing all the mucus.

I hope your baby is better soon, it's horrible seeing them ill when they can't really say what the matter is :(

If you are worried about him I would get him checked, doctors never feel like you are wasting their time with a poorly baby.

Have you offered him water? It's more important to keep his fluids up at the moment.

You poor things - sounds horrible! It could be a virus, or a combination of two (cold plus tummy bug). When mine gets a chesty cough he often throws up food as well (solids as well as when he was just on milk) and the cold put him right off his food for a few days. With the diarrhoea, it suggests a tummy bug to me, but it can be upset tummy from the mucous or from something he's eaten that didn't agree with him - it's very hard to tell. And at the moment, there is a horrible virus going around that seems to combine a chesty snotty cold with a low grade fever (98 ish) and tummy bug, so that's a likely option. For all of those, the key thing is hydration so keep an eye on nappies to make sure they're still weeing plenty and get fluids in where you can (food can wait!). But whatever the reason, if you are at all concerned or would like some proper medical advice on how best to deal with it then don't worry about going to the doctors - they are always happy to see babies, however big or small the problem. My surgery were always great on the telephone when mine was that small - I could request a call back from a GP and then talk through the symptoms and they'd offer advice or sometimes ask me to bring him in to be checked. That way they'd know if this horrible virus is going around where you are and the symptoms might point to that, or get you to bring him in if they're not happy to leave it. Hope he's better soon.

Mine is the same at the minute. As long as have wet nappies and responsive and no rashes, I wouldn't go to the doctor . Hope he's better soon

Thanks everyone. Took him to doctors today and he's been given anti-biotics. Although I don't know what is actually wrong with him. Dr just said he had lots of phlegm on his chest.
He wouldn't drink water, and kept throwing up after feeds, add that to the diarrhoea and I was just worried about keeping him hydrated.
And re the milk oz's, he was 11lb7oz at birth, length was off the chart on his red book, and weighs 10kg already. So he's appetite is big & always has been. But I guess that's because he's big (long etc not fat).

And he doesn't feed during night, sleeps at least 12 hours. So has all his feeds in the other 12 hours he's awake.
