Hi, am looking for some positive stories from anyone who has experienced similar please! My boy turns 1 the end of this month...he sits happily, rolls and seems absolutely fine in terms of interacting with us, eating etc. BUT he cannot crawl, pull himself up from lying to sitting, pull himself up on furniture or cruise. He does, however, stand and walk along holding our hands but has no real balance yet so he could never go it alone.
We saw a doctor today who said there is nothing sinister going on, but he has muscle tone at the low end of normal. He hopefully will get going but it may take quite some time.
The trouble is, he is getting hugely frustrated because he seems to want to be on his feet, but he can't get himself up there, also because he can't sit himself up from lying. I am exhausted and hoping there are others out there who have been through this and come out smiling! Thank you x

Did the GP offer a physio referral?? If not, I would insist on being referred for a full assessment. In our area, GPS can refer but also your HV. There is often a waiting list.

I had a friend who had concerns about her daughter who was doing all the things your little man is now, she got a physio referral but they found nothing wrong. The little girl started walking on her own pretty soon afterwards. The windows for normal development of walking are huge, so as long as you're seeing progress I wouldn't worry too much. Physio referral could help to put your mind at rest though.

Thanks for your replies. We have a physio appointment next week to get some ideas to get him going. He has just starting going up on all fours and rocking a bit so fingers crossed! It's his birthday in a few days so maybe he's waiting until the big day!

Hi,
My son has low muscle tone & also hypermobility. He didn't crawl but just before 1 started to bum shuffle. He also started Physio having been referred by HV.
He wouldn't weight bear so different to your son. He started to weight bear at 20 months and didn't walk until 26 months (1 month after his sister was born - carrying two was tough = prolapse disc).

Now he is 4 and 5 months and you'd never know any different. He runs but not as fast as others. He is very weak in strength but these aren't major things in the grand scheme of life.

Happy to answer any questions I remember how worrying things were.

X

My daughter wouldn't weight bear at that age. She would sit happily and stretch for things she wanted. She didn't really roll over much either. She started sitting up by herself just after first birthday and started bum shuffling at 15 months. She is 21 months now and can crawl, bum shuffle, pull herself to standing (and sometimes stand independently) and cruises round furniture.
Some babies are just slower than others. Contact health visitor if you're worried but lo is well within the "normal" range.
