DS has a tentative diagnosis of this and I was wondering if anyone has any experience? What treatment is likely to be offered and how quickly we might see results?

I never knew it had a name! DD had this problem when she was a pre-schooler, but only with stools. It was horrendous and took around six months for her to stop doing it.
I have no advice if it is urine but my experience of stool withholding was that the medicine had no effect and the only way I eventually discovered she would let go when to cuddle her on the loo and hold my hand on her belly quite firmly. It was awful, she used to bleed and scream. GP could not do anything to help other than meds so I had to work on the psychological side of it with support.

DS's bladder and bowel are affected. Poor boy is often in pain and constantly nauseous. He has uti after uti. The nerves are now damaged so he has no wilful control. Laxatives don't help. We're on a strict drinking/bladder emptying schedule and he has to sit on the loo for ten minutes at a time and try to relax. He's so distressed :( DS is 11, and isn't deliberately withholding.

Poor boy :( and poor you :(. Hope someone comes along with some help. There appear to be no support groups on-line that I can find but a lot of different organisations offering tips...but I guess you have read all of them already.

Hope someone comes along Thanks

I feel for you op but doubt I can be of much help.

My ds is 4 and has suffered from constipation due to withholding. When he was toilet training he could hold wee for a full day too, thankfully that passed in a matter of weeks.

We've only had a breakthrough on the stool front thanks to being referred to a marvellous consultant. He was patient and literally at the end of the phone whenever I needed to chat.

We were prescribed movicol(which da was on for months prior anyway) at the maximum dose for a week- he dealt with it really well. Much better than we hoped. He was also prescribed sodium pico sulphate, is this something your ds has had.

I think the pico has made a huge difference, our consultant said it gave the bowel "some umph" we first visited him in October and ds has not needed movicol since that initial week.

He is emptying his bowels every other day at least now and 6 not he ago id not have thought that was possible.

Ours is positive but in different circumstances sadly, hopefully it can provide some hope for you though.

Is your ds under a consultant?

DS is now under a consultant at Birmingham Children's Hospital. He takes 2x movicol and 20ml lactalose daily. I am again treating him for impaction. Poo and pee are all we seem to think about, talk about, deal with. It's bloody rotten

I feel for u snakey, it's all consuming isn't it? There's the short term to worry about and then the long term

The pico sulphate made a huge difference to my ds in a very short space of time, worth asking about/considering?

Thanks, Totes. The pico sulphate isn't something we've heard mentioned, so I'm off to research.

it has a name I'm sure you will have heard of, like a brand name. I can't think of it, off to google

Don't know about this condition in particular, but gave had great success of using reflexology to counter constipation caused by other things such as heavy pain medication, worth seeing if it can help at all?
