My ds1 (11) has been ill since he broke up from school a week ago...cough and cold.
Woke me at 4am saying he had a bad headache and I could feel he was burning up. Temp was 40 :(
Lump in his neck under his jaw.
Dh is taking him To ooh gp now but we have had snow :(
So I am worried about Ds and them getting there ok....we live in a village the ooh gp is 18 miles away :(
I am here with ds2.
Could it be mumps? He has had all his vaccinations....

Oh poor boy, he must be feeling pretty grim if his temp is 40. I have no idea about medical stuff but our lymph glands in the neck - far more likely for one of them to have swollen up as it's fighting an infection than mumps.

Pour yourself a cuppa and stay strong.

Thanks x

I hope he's OK. Agree more likely to be a lymph gland. There is a very nasty virus going round - symptoms including terrible headache, painful joints, vomiting. I had it myself. Fx that's all it is.
Tip: if it is, I craved carbs for 2 days after!

Archduke · 27/12/2014 06:31

Poor girl Flowers - I'm sure things will be fine - get dh to drive nice and calmly, can he do that? you have a Brew, will they call from the surgery to put your mind at rest?

Baddz · 27/12/2014 06:38

Really...did you have the cough/cold and high temp too?
Poor thing...he was so excited about the snow! :(

Hoping all is well, fever is horrible but it shows his body is fighting those nasty bugs xxx hope he feels much better soon xxx

reallystuckonthisone · 27/12/2014 06:49

I had a temp but no cough. My MIL had similar and had the cough. There are some really nasty viruses around at the mo. Flowers

Baddz · 27/12/2014 06:52

We have about 6 inches of snow here ATM.
Looks pretty but causes so many problems...we just aren't geared up for bad weather in the uk, are we?
we have no more plans over xmas and new year so Ds can spend a week in bed if he needs to.
Poor sausage :(
Sorry...I'm rambling....
Glad your better now really.

Glad they got there ok. Am sure GP won't need DH to remember everything to manage a diagnosis.

Poor old DS - its miserable being ill over Xmas - let us know how they get on.

Baddz · 27/12/2014 07:20

Ds has bad tonsillitis.
Poor love.
10 days of ABs.
Thanks for the company x

I sent my husband off to the doctor with my son once and gave him a really bossy note with bullet points of all ds symptoms, and underlined "don't get this antibiotic, it's useless" and an angry face smiley!
Anyway, dh came back and he told me he had just handed the note to the GP!! It looked like I had written this really bossy note to the Doctor.

Just thought that would make you laugh a bit while you are waiting.

If your son has an infection, maybe one of his glands are swollen too. I am sure he will be much better by the end of today After seeing the doc.

3luckystars · 27/12/2014 07:23

ah the poor thing. Hope he is on the mend soon.

cherrymix · 27/12/2014 07:25

Hope they have a safe journey home. Maybe pick up some Ribena on the way - I used to love hot Ribena when I had tonsillitis.

Baddz · 27/12/2014 07:32

I wrote a note! :)
For Dhs eyes only though!

Ah the poor love. My DS suffers with tonsillitis and is usually very I'll but picks up after 48 hours of AB so hopefully your ds will start to feel better soon and enjoy the snow. I find ibuprofen helps better than paracetamol but always time it so he's being dosed up every 3 hours. My DS likes lemonade when he has it as he says it scratches the itch! Also great way to get sugar into them and give them energy. (Obviously don't buy sugar free!)

Baddz · 27/12/2014 07:40

He only drinks water
Really thought I had done with tonsillitis this year as my youngest had his out in July!
Sigh.
Oh well.
Hopefully he will feel better after 48 hours.
This used to happen to me all the time...I would break up from school and then be ill all holiday then get better just in time to go back!
I hate it when they are ill :(

My DS sees ENT next week - both my dad and sister have had theirs out and he may be next!

There's a fab medicine called minidex that has all the daily nutrients they need. It's worked well for my DS when he's gone days without eating.

Baddz · 27/12/2014 07:53

Oh, I hope, you get on ok with the ent...ds2s was an emergency op...it was done within 2 weeks of referral.
And he hasnt had tonsillitis since!
However, he was having nasty bouts every 4-6 weeks. It was awful. They were running out of ABs for him!
I have put him on a pro biotic (optibac) in the hope it might help his gut flora recover.
Both my parents had theirs out but it was a very common op in the early years of the NHS (1950s)
My bro had his out as an emergency when he was 23....much worse op when you are an adult.

My dad was 7 and had both tonsils and adenoids out. My sister was 26 when she had her tonsils removed. DS has repeated fluid in ears at a young age and saw ENT at 4/5yo (can't actually remember Blush who mentioned grommets if it didn't resolve by 8yo. Funnily enough he recovered and then at 9 started tonsillitis every 4-6 weeks - birth viral and bacterial. He's only 10yo now! His neurologist referred us because he has sleep, issues and I mentioned his recurrent tonsillitis. Everyone is just looking at everything - we will gets answers one day!

Hope your DS and DH are home and warm now. Me and DS are off for a 5k charity walk! (It's very wet and windy here!)

Baddz · 27/12/2014 08:08

He is home looks much perkier :)
Good luck for the walk x

Glad he's better Smile At least with tonsillitis you get abx. They can do nothing for a virus.
Stockpile the ice cream!!
