Eye floaters

My 8 year old DD has been complaining about eye floaters for approximately 2 years. She says they come in all different shapes, sizes and colours- sometimes they are translucent and sometimes they are opaque. She used to get them occasionally but now she says she sees them several times a day and they disturb her whilst she is working at school. Before the summer holidays we were referred to an ophthalmologist who gave her a complete eye examination and confirmed her eyes were normal and that there was no visible damage. Her eyesight was good, she doesn't have any vision problems (other than the floaters) and she doesn't suffer from headaches. I can't find anything on the internet that fits what she describes so I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this. The ophthalmologist wasn't sure what it could be and suggested that she might grow out of it once her eyes were fully developed. It has been 4 months since her appointment and the floaters are now more regular. Would there be any point in taking her back?

Hi.My DD has started getting floaters two years ago.She got used to it as she said there was just one.Two months ago she saw more of them but this time she is quite agitated about it.The Doctor told her that there is no treatment as such and her brain should get used to the floaters over time. However it is affecting her mental health greatly.May I ask you what is the current status of your DD in terms of floaters. And if you have done anything to help her adjust to it.Your reply will be hugely appreciated as I am quite stressed about this issue.Thanks.

I've posted about the odd visual things which children get at that age a few times, here's my last post on it. The visual cortex goes through a final maturation stage at around your daughters age.

Children seem to stop mentioning it by about 10.
