DS (3) need 2 teeth removed due to infection

Hi all, we have just returned from a normal check up at the dentist to be told that my DS who is 3 needs to have his 2 front teeth removed due to an infection :(

He has always had issues with these 2 top front teeth when he had a big bump at about 12 months. He had a fall, knocked them, they were very wobbly there was talk of removing them at the time but after a week they firmed up so the dentist said they could stay in but may discolour.

They had discoloured but I thought nothing of this as they said to expect it but I hadn't noticed the small abscesses on his upper gum (under his top lip) as never thought to look for any reason and DS has never complained of pain or soreness. So this is all a bit of a shock really!!

As much as I would prefer him to not have to have his teeth removed under GA I understand this is necessary however just wondered if anyone else had experience of these top 2 teeth being removed and if it will cause complications for his adult teeth later on? Could the infection of damaged those? I have also heard of the other teeth moving to "bridge the gaps" when baby teeth are removed early and so causing problems for adult teeth finding their way down into the right spot?

I know I should of asked most of these questions at the dentist but its always later that you think of them!

I appreciate anyone's advise or experience : )

Could you call them tomorrow and ask?

The neighbours little girl knocked her top 2 teeth as a toddler, and then fell again aged about 4, resulting in them taking out the 2 front teeth.

AFAIK, there are no concerns atm, but her adult teath may be late coming through - more like baby teeth coming through, rather than adult teeth replacing milk teeth, iyswim?

Some of the kids in Y1 are loosing milk teeth naturally now anyway, so its not that different to those kids, and I suspect the casual observer just thinks it is natural. At 3 that might not quite be the case, but it won't be long til everyone is loosing teeth.

Its NOT your fault. Its an effect of his fall, just not an immediate one.

Not quite the same but DS2 fell badly aged 4 and knocked his two front teeth which also discoloured grey - he was stuck with them until they fell out naturally, and luckily no abscesses. Couldn't the infection be treated with antibiotics and the teeth salvaged for a bit longer??
