How long can I give Calpol for?

I have nearly 18 month old twins and they (and us) have all got a nasty cold. Shivering, achey just generally yuck. I have been alternating between 5ml of Calpol and 5ml of Nurofen since Friday. They are whingy and unsettled during the day and have woken a couple of times at night very hot to touch and with fever. I strip them down to vests. Should I take them to the GP or should I just carry on with what I am doing?

For some reason when your DC are ill you lose all logic and can't even make simple decisions. I also don't want to keep giving them so much medicine.

they normally say to consult a GP if symptoms persist for more than 3 days

If they are perking up and obviously turning the corner by the 3rd day I wouldn't bother with the gp unless they start to go downhill again. You ca give calpol and brufen longer than the 3 days if it's needed.

I agree sick children panic you but common sense as above ^^ is what's needed!

Thanks for the replies. They woke up this morning and are back to normal, full of smiles and running all over the place.

Me and DH still feel awful though.
