Is DD stomach ache all in her mind

My DD aged 10 has been getting stomach pains for the past week, we have taken her to the GP and also A&E and they could find nothing wrong with her. She hasn't got a temperature is eating normally and is passing urine and pooing normally as well.

I think it is a virus but my DH is starting to think it is something psychological, his arguments for this is that it only appears to be happening when she goes to bed or when she when tell her do something she doesn't like or she feels abandoned. For instance she was fine on Thursday so we sent her to school on Friday and she had an attack, she was fine most of Saturday but when she was told to go to bed after strictly she had another attack. She was really scarred about going to school this morning so she had the morning off I am now taking her in for the afternoon and once again he stomach started hurting. Could he be right?

Don't know but didn't want to let your post unanswered. DD (8) has something similar last year. She had all the tests under the sun but nothing came back positive. I genuinely believe she was in pain (she has a "sick" face that can't really be faked). It lasted on and off for about six weeks and then stopped never to return again.

I think she has a genuine tummy ache. My dd aged 14 has had this on and off for years and at one time was investigated for abdominal migraine. I believe her because I had exactly the same and still do occasionally - I have hiatus hernia which I probably had as a child.

One thing to remember is that stress may well make it worse. The only thing you can do is try medicines from the doctor to relieve it and ask for a referral if it continues. Perhaps talk to your daughter about what to do at school if she feels unwell and make the teachers aware.
