Help, croup - is this normal?!

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on here and I am after some advice.

I have 1 year old twin girls, one of them developed croup, which has turned into bronchilitis but has coped fine, but her sister developed croup last Saturday and is still really suffering 5 days on.

I have been to a&e on sat and the doc administered some dexamethaside (sorry don't know how to spell!) and admitted her to hospital as she was really working hard to breathe and struggling. Her observations (sats and temp) were perfect so in the morning the docs felt she had the croup virus but could go home. An hour after she left hospital she woke from her sleep really struggling to breathe, I kept an eye on her for 2 hrs then decided to go to gp for their opinion and they called me an ambulance as try said she was in respiratory distress which was v frightening! She had more dex medicine and was re admitted, where I stayed a further 3 nights. We came out today as the doc said a&e just needed time and could recover from home. But tonight has been an absolute nightmare!

Is this normal for croup? We have filled tr room with steam tonight and Vicks and she seems like her breathing has loosened and is more mucasy but she is still working hard to breathe and very irratible.

How long does this go on for? Not sure whether to take her back to hospital tonight or not?! When she sleeps it seems a bit easier but she keeps on coughing which disturbs her.

I am back in now. They have given more dex and are going to prescribe a course of predinosolone
