Ds is going back to school tomorrow, so obviously he's started with a cold and mild sore throat (he doesn't have tonsils if it's relevant!) is there anything i can buy to clear up this snot, he's 7. Or is he destined to spend the winter with a crusty, slimy nose?!

hi banana have you tried medised, it can make kids drowsy so would be best to give at night it contains paracetamol, and antihistamine that dries up snot... you cant use it long term but it might help clear up his present cold.

good luck

banana I had this with DD when she was small - honestly she could have done with a drip tray under her nose all winter. I agree, try piriton in an attempt to dry up the snot. Also, it sounds obvious, but keep reminding him to properly blow his nose. DD would sniff and snot all day long and I'm sure this kept it going much longer than it would have otherwise.

Thank you. I'd forgotten about medised! Went to Tesco and they said nobody sells it now! I've bought piritize and a zillion packets of tissues. Thanks ladies

Try googling the Butekyo nose clearing technique. My kids do it and it is great and I have a couple of allergy prone snot monsters!!

give him kids chewable echinacea tablets.
A.Vogel brand is good.
ignore label, my 3 year old has had it many times, I even gave half a tablet crushed up to DD when she wa 8 months old.

cut dairy, no proven full medical study but recommended by our consultant for ds's that had ENT issues - we've avoided tonsils and adenoids out by removing it, worth a try imo

Interesting incywincy, ds had tonsils removed age2 and now age 7 is about to have an op to remove wax from his ear canals. He has lacto free dairy products but maybe we should cut it out completely! He's such a cheese a holic! Maybe i need to wean him slowly! Thanks for that tip!

Aaah snot dont you just love it ! All 4 of my kids have suffered with it as have I. My old mum used to make me sniff salt water up my nose and spit it out my mouth, the salt is suppose to dry up the snot in the nasal passage I tried it as a teen and it did work well but its a horrible experience and one i haven't put my kids through and you certainly don't want to do it in front of someone you want to impress!!!
