Any maxilofacial docs around!? Really worried now about ds2 (4)

Ds2 fell at pils 3 weeks ago - he was jumping on the sofa and hit his cheek against the corner of a wooden sideboard
(No, I dont know why they let him jump in the sofa)
I put an ice pack on it, gave him some calpol and checked the inside of his mouth and teeth and they seemed fine. No problems eating or drinking.
It's been 3 weeks and although the bruising is mostly gone there is a lump under the bruise - I have googled this and it would seem to be a haematoma.
But.
Today I noticed that when he smiles or moves his mouth there is a sort of dent in his cheek where he hit himself.
Taking him to the gp tomorrow, but do any of you know what this could be?
Am sitting here really worried and dh is being his usual self...I.e. not interested. He convinced me that it would heal and ds2 didn't need to see a doctor. I feel awful.
Please tell me his lovely face isn't permanently damaged? :(

Hi, I am not a maxfax dr but have recently had some experience with them after my DS1 had a nasty gash to the head which then become infected. He was under the care of the maxfax team while he was in hospital.

Definitely take him to the GP and see what he/she says. There is no harm in checking and 3 weeks post accident if you are still worried, I am sure they will be helpful. I am sure you would be able to ask for a referral to the maxfax team at your local hospital. I found the team at our hospital very helpful and obliging and although DS was discharged from their care last week, they said if I had any concerns to see our GP and request a referral back.

If anything one appointment may be all that is needed to put your mind at rest. Children recover well from these things - good luck

Ondif the mad things did this, had a haemotima and then a dent, I spoke to my mum as she is a nurse!

Anyway it went away eventually :)

But do get him checked over if you are concerned :)

It freaked me out as well, I thought he would have a weird dent forever, but it was just one if those odd things and you can't tell...what is even worse is I can't remember which mad thing it was I think it was ds3 or ds4 ...we have had lots of falls and bumps etc over the years, they all blur into my memory. is quite clearly a really crap mother--

To make you feel even better ds3hurt his foot once, he us a bit of a drama queen but three days later he was still limping so we took him to a&e....it was broken!! Bad bad mother. It healed fine tho and you would never know to look at my children that I am clearly crap

Not facial (and I'm not a dr) but I once fell down the stairs and bashed my thigh really, really hard on a sharp edge. It hurt like fuck and I had a massive bruise in a line where the edge went. This swelled up (in a line) then went down and I had a dent there. It was there for a while, a few months I would say, but is now entirely gone.

So I would go to a dr because he is small and it's his face, but I think that can just happen when you bash yourself and he is prob fine

I have just looked through some old photos... It was ds4 and for quite a while it looked like he had a really odd dimple on his cheek. He is now five and there is no sign of it at all, but I shall inspect him closely in the morning to check!

Just wanted to update you as you were to kind to post...
Took him to the gp but it was registrar who didn't really seem that sure what to do (!)
nyway, he has said it should go in 3 weeks or so but if it gets worse or I am worried he will refer him to the max fax dept of our local hospital.
So, am praying it disappears over the next few weeks.

I hope everything's OK.

My mum had this when she dropped a concrete fence post on her leg (Dad may have helped with the fuckwittery!) and she had a dent once the bruising and swelling went down. It gradually disappeared with no ill effects though - it did take a good few months though.

It may take a while to.go away but you cant tell where ds4's was. It was on his left cheek but up by his cheek.bone iyswim? I remember being a bit relieved it was his cheek he had hit and not his eye.

And he is still beautiful i am sure xxxx

My sons is right in the centre of his cheek..the fleshy part iyswim?
The bruise has Bruise has nearly gone but now he has 2 dents and it seems about swollen near his mouth - sorry its a bit difficult to explain.
Thing is he won't say it hurst be austere knows that means I will take him to the gp! (Little monkey)

Awww he is a cutie and if it helps at all.those 'dents" are exactly whay ds4's looked like.

I thinknthe explanation was something to do with bruising under the skin and they can get the haematoma and granulation? Of tissue as it heals?


Get him referred just so you feel better but even had you gone straight away you wouldnt have been able to.prevent it as its part of how his body is healing iyswim? Little bodies are remarkably resilient and heal well. Ds4's dinty bit went away but it did take a good while and was very gradual. Fingers crossed you will have the same experience.

The gp said to bring him back if it got worse or looked infected....how the hell do I tell if its infected!?
We had an appt booked for next Friday but I think it's got worse since Tuesday...:(
Not sure what max fax can do really but that's what the go said would be the next port of call.
Oh, and dh is in a meeting til noon.

If it was infected it would become red, hot to the touch and look angry and inflamed so i dont think.it looks infected. He didnt actually break the skin at all?

Does he let you touch it? Ds4 wouldnt let us tpuch his face for a while but after a bit was fine and we could gently rub/massage it which i figured may help it sort of smooth out again..

but mainly we just left it, it took a good couple of months to go away, probably gradually went over three/four months.

Do you have an out of hours GP service you could use? My drs surgery closes at noon and the phone lines give you the options to then go thru to out of hours.

When I have needed to see a GP and they have no spaces they have suggested waiting til the surgery is closed for lunch and accessing the gps surery this way.

If you're concerned and want to see someone sooner..?
