Hello mums, this is my first post so I hope I do this correctly......
My 4 year old son has developed chicken pox it is now Friday and the first spots appeared yesterday (Thursday). My question is, we have a family party tonight and we were going to attend -leaving the poorly one with my sister and taking my 2 year old daughter. Its my bro in laws 40th and Some family members say we shouldn't bring her as she is highly likely to be contagious as she has never had chickenpox. She is showing no signs of being ill. There are no pregnant ladies going tonight but there are other children going - the same ones that were with us last week in half term so they may be contagious too - Plus am I carrying the virus, I have had chicken pox but am applying the cream, being sneezed, dribbled and puked on so should not go too?? Any suggestions and advice gratefully received xxxxx

She's probably incubating it, I'd think...

If you've had it, you should be immune and not carrying it.

So she would be contagious to people who have never had it? Plus the other children we were with last week and who are in his class? Thank you for your help :-)

My siblings and I all got chicken pox over a 4week period, but one of my brothers didn't get it then & has never had it!!

I think you are contagious for 2 weeks before the 1st spots appear and until all the spots have crusted over.

It's impossible to tell whether your dd has it or not. Siblings don't always catch it at the same time but if there is anyone in your family with lowered immunity then I wouldn't take her.

the incubation period is 10 to 21 days but they are only contagious for 1 to 2 days before the spots come out so she would not be contagious yet.
