My 8wo DS has had a cold for a couple of weeks. His 5yr old sister has had every bug doing the rounds at school! He is so, so mucusy & congested at night that he wakes himself & me up obviously bothered by the mucus/congestion in this throat. During the day he sits in his bouncer or I prop him up in his modes basket with a pillow which really helps but I know you are not supposed to do this at night. I do elavate his modes basket but it doesnt really help unless its so high that he ends up scrunched down the other end! We've been to the GP twice who says lungs are clear & baby is well otherwise. Is there anything else I can do to help the poor little mite? Thank you x

You can try saline (salt water) drops or spray in the nose before bed. These can be bought from any chemist. Trying to raise the head of the basket at night (as much as can be tolerated) will help. If you're having a hot bath or shower at night then have the little one in the room - the warm, moist air will loosen secretions. Don't use boiling hot water as the steam will scald and if they knock over the water it will cause a worse injury.

See how you go with that. Good luck.

My 6 week old is recovering from rs virus. I have warm showers with him, he loves them and goes to sleep in the shower.

We use saline drops and a snot sucking device, I'm not sure if you have them in the UK, they are gross but they work well!

The pediatrician's advice about sleep was to let ds sleep in his car seat but I know there are some dangers to that I think we were only given that advice because ds's illness was so severe.

My 12 week old was exactly the same. I bought a humidifier at the weekend and his sniffles have gone completely! Would def recommend.

Thanks Louisemarie. Which humidifier did you buy? I would really like to get one but I understand there are hot & cold ones?
