Receding gums in toddler?

I have noticed tonight (whilst brushing DS's teeth) that he has receded gumline around his lower first molars.
Is this normal for a toddler (2.7y)?! His gums don't bleed when brushed and I cannot see any cavities or tartar build up (as far as I can tell, obviously not qualified!)

Seems quite normal but brush gently if he flinches and watch it but book in with your dentist to check. My niece had this and she was fine.

redruby thanks for your reply.
I don't think it's sore as he doesn't flinch at all. You are right I should book the dentist. Although there is no chance DS would even go in without screaming and letting anyone look in his mouth!
