dd2 has a sickness bug - since Friday

she brings back up all food, and any milk (other than boob)

dp took her to GP yesterday and GP has suggested to stop boob and offer flat coke,

her nappy over night was dry and shes really sleepy this morning

dont know what to do sad im offering her boob and dioralite and shes not really bothered by either and certainly not drinking enough

A and E. if she is dehydrated and still not taking liquid I am afraid she needs to be seen in hopsital.

I'd forget the doctor and go straight to A&E - she probably needs IV fluids if she can't keep anything down.

A&E and give her the boob as much as she likes. it is the perfect composition for her.
hope she is better soon.

Yes, take to hospital NOW

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 11:28:00

Please, please don't take away boob, especially as it's the only thing she is keeping down. I'm afraid your GP has given you very, very poor advice. Offer boob as often as possible. Have a read of this and if she is showing of the signs mentioned then take her to hospital. Do continue the nursing though.

Hope she recovers soon.

ok, i woke her & am feeding her

shes 1\2 asleep but is feeding and biting me

dont plan on getting off sofa then

lyndie Wed 08-Feb-12 11:36:22

Has she peed yet? If not please call GP again or go to A&E!! She might even just need a couple of hours on a drip to rehydrate her. Good luck.

OnlyWantsOne Wed 08-Feb-12 11:38:25

haave put on clean nappy so i can tell if she wees, giving it til 1 and then will take her to a&e

am ignoring GP advice cock

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 11:39:11

Only did you read the link? Did she have any of the symptoms in the list where it advises you to get medical help?

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 11:41:19

Sounds like a good plan smile.

Once she's better I would write to your PCT and suggest that their GPs have better training on bfing and include a print out of the link.

Agree that he is a cock too and I was once given the same advise by my GP who had been a Paed before he became a GP shock.

OnlyWantsOne Wed 08-Feb-12 11:43:22

same as this gp!! was a pead

dp came home very anti me still breast feeding, as apparently its completely for my benefit

thanks doctor!!!

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 11:57:26

Am now very, very shock at your GP. Did he actually say that you are doing it for your benefit only? Has he not heard of the WHO guidelines on Bfing? I would seriosly write to your PCT and ask why their GPs are givng out advice that contradicts the WHO guidelines.

Someone on here might be able to give you a link to the guidelines, in the meantime please remind your DH that
"bfing is recommended for a MINIMUM of 2 years". Please get him to read this as well.

Try to ignore all this though, concentrate on your DD and getting lots of milk into her, you can talk to your DH later about why he would want to deprive his daugher of the only thing she is keeping down when she is sick.

OnlyWantsOne Wed 08-Feb-12 11:59:31

On Monday I spoke to a GP at the same surgery who told me that me Bf was distracting her from taking the dioralite hmm

She's now eating mini chedders blush

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 14:47:14

Oh FFS, why is dioralite better than bm? Does diorallte contain antibodies for starters? Would love to hear their thoughts on that one.

Thats such good news Only. My advice would be feed, feed and feed some more. She'll be better in no time smile.

Bunbaker Wed 08-Feb-12 14:52:30

How is she now?

OnlyWantsOne Wed 08-Feb-12 15:09:43

Been asleep since just gone 12. Now at school picking up dd1 then think am going to head to a & e as still no wee

Bunbaker Wed 08-Feb-12 15:44:49

Pack a bag, they may keep her in. I hope she feels better soon.

JiltedJohnsJulie Wed 08-Feb-12 18:40:35

Hope she feels better soon too.

JiltedJohnsJulie Thu 09-Feb-12 10:24:37

How is she today Only?

Bunbaker Thu 09-Feb-12 21:44:44

Any updates?

Petrean Thu 09-Feb-12 21:48:18

Dioralytes... Get some in your DC. You can buy at the pharmacy. I went to a and e with mine when he was 11 months old with the same thing. I had to make up dioralytes and syringe 10ml into his mouth every 10 minutes. He managed to keep 10ml down, any more and he'd vomit.

Petrean Thu 09-Feb-12 21:49:38

Oh I should really read more than the op before I post. Someone already suggested that.

OnlyWantsOne Thu 09-Feb-12 22:02:59

She's much better today. Still very very grumpy and clingy though sad

JiltedJohnsJulie Fri 10-Feb-12 09:10:47

Glad she is feeling better, were you in A&E long?
