10 year old with constipation

Hi Guys
I have a 10 year old girl who suffers badly with constipation. BM can be 5-7 days apart. When she does go she's in pain and the motions are very large. This causes alot of abdo pain for several hours afterwards and she is always very upset because it often blocks up the loo.
I have tried pushing lots of fluids and plenty of fruit and fibre but doesn't seem to be working.
Any suggestions on child friendly laxatives/stool softeners?
Thanks.

Not everyone's cup of tea but I went to a lovely homeopath for similar problem with dd1 and it was sorted within days. Of course we also did fluids, fibre etc. And making a quiet time every day (after a warm bath is best for her) to try for a poo when she won't be interrupted and doesn't feel rushed.

Have you tried reducing wheat and dairy? Coz this was main problem for my ds..and me (I used to block the loo too Blush)

You can also add a few flaxseeds to the meals, you literally need a small pinch, 10-12, best if ground, but you can use them whole too.

also, maybe add vit Bs and epsom sals in the bath, both have a relaxing effect

Thanks so much, def think bread and cereals are the main problem, will look into the wheat free options and lots of warm baths for starters.
Am reluctant to use medication especially at her age, despite her being the height of a 13 year old, still think she's too young to go along that path.
By the way, have only just joined the site and have been blown away by how everyone gives their input and advice..thanks x

I have the same problem with my 10 year old son, however i don't think it has anything to do with his diet, i think he is holding on when he feels the need to go. I have tried to tell him the importance of going, and that he has time to go, and can leave whatever he is doing at the time. The doctor gave me lactulose, but i have been giving it to him for a long time now. The stools seem to back up inside children and it really worries me that he still isn't any better. Help!!

Not sure if kids can take it, but what about fibogel? I use it as I have ibs so it is a godsend.

I am pretty sure it's natural and the bowels will not need to rely on it to move if you need to use it regularly.

Does does eat dried apricots? One or two of those soon helps my dd go. Also pears too.

Hope she feels better soon

Thanks for all your comments, she loves raisins and dried fruits so will give that a go as well.
I agree that sometimes she does hold on...she's too worried to go at school incase she blocks their loo. I have told her whenever she feels the need to go then she should go, relax and not worry about anyone or anything else.

This seems to be a common problem these days. My granddaughter has been given Movicol 8 sachets and nothing happens. Taking her bck to hospital...
