Chicken pox?

I was just getting my ds ready for nursery this morning and noticed 2 really red, sore and funny looking spots on his back and shoulder.

Ive never really seen chicken pox before so Ive kept him off nursery and booked an appointment at the doctors just to be safe.

Hes been really irritable all weekend aswell and hasnt really seemed like himself but doesnt seem unwell? does this sound at all like it could be chicken pox ?

yes it could be.
do they look quite big and have a blister on?

if it's CP you';ll know by the end of the day as they appear very rapidly!

Yes they do look like a blister this is what concerned me and they are big. I first saw one last night in the bath on his neck and it was small then so Im thinking it is.

So far he only has 2 do they really come up that quickly?

Do you think its wise to take him to the doctors?

My children all spent a normal day at school/nursery then at bath time they were covered in spots. They come up in a matter of hours. (With a few more adding themselves for a few days.)

They come up within hours. If you go to gp (and it is n't really necessary unless there are complications) make sure you tell them in advance why you are coming so he can be isolated.

It does sound like chicken pox. My GP would rather children with chicken pox didn't come into the surgery as it is very infectious, you'd have to wait to see the doctor in a separate waiting area, any contact for women (who haven't had CP before) who are pregnant is dangerous. My GP was angry that DS had touched the door when we went in (and we only went in because DS had just got out of hospital for pneumonia).

I rang before I went and explained I waited in a seperate area

Doctor was not so helpful said they look like chicken pox but as theres only 2 atm hard to tell, said to keep him off nursery just in case they are :) Ds really wants to go though so hard :(

DS only had about 6 spots in the end (thank goodness as he'd been so poorly just the week before). DD was a different story...
