Yes I know this has been done over and over ! Last Tuesday I treated dd with Lyclear Cream Rinse, removing a number of adult lice - yuk. Been combing everyday since and found the odd smaller one still alive so retreated tonight. Her scalp was very itchy and inflamed but has calmed down in the intervening week. Today's haul was a couple of tiny immature ones and various debris. What next ? Do I just keep combing ? Poor dd is getting so sick of it and she has become something of an expert via Google

Keep combing.

Best way is to just do the conditioner and Nitty Gritty comb, daily for the first week or so then every 2-3 days for another fortnight as you should have been through a whole lifecycle by then and got rid of all the eggs/larvae/immature lice.

Using the conditioner & Nitty Gritty means you don't need to use the harsh chemicals that make her scalp so sore. It is just as effective, just a bit more labour intensive!

I do a comb through it every Sunday just to make sure they haven't picked up any rogue beasties in the week and so far they have stayed nit-free despite several class outbreaks.

Thanks, looks like we coudl be at it for a while yet! . An idle question - does chlorine kill lice ? This is dd's first outbreak (and we've got her to aged 9 without crawlers) but normally she swims once or twice a week at school. The week before they appeared she was off swimming as she was coughing. Wondering if the chlorine has helped keep them at bay in the past .

LIZS, cant' help with the treatment side of things, but do try spraying your dd's hair every single school morning with Vosene lice repellent conditioning spray - I think thats what its called - or something similar. They go to school smelling of tea tree, but combined with plaits etc it does seem pretty effective! You do need to use it every day though, not just when shampooing.

I read something earlier, that just plain old normal vinegar drenched through the hair, then combed with a nit comb (i swear by the nitty gritty one)then washed thoroughly works wonders.
And makes the hair shiny!
I am definitely trying that next time!
