My DD started with diarrhoea on Wednesday about an hour after she had her BCG vaccination (not sure if this is relevant but seems odd). On Thursday morning I called NHS direct who advised me to carry on with normal milk and solids and to increase her water consumption which I did. The diarrhoea had not improved by Friday morning so I visited my GP who prescribed Diorylite and did a thorough check over of her (she is very happy in herself and has no temperature or signs of any other infection that may be causing the upset tum).
She still seems bright and happy and is showing no other signs of dehydration apart from a few less wet nappies than normal. She has been having the Diorylite for 24 hours (5 sachets so far) and I have kept her off milk and dairy since yesterday morning (as advised by the doctor).
I have a few questions -
How long do these things normally go on for?
4/5 days seems a long time for a 12 month old and she is not eating nearly as much a normal (she is not a big baby either - 20lbs).
How long do I carry on with the rehydration sachets (I was only prescribed six but have bought more). Can these be harmful if they have too many?
When to re-introduce milk and dairy? I swapped her to toddler milk last week but switched back to follow-on when the upset tum started as I thought it might be the new milk....the toddler milk smelt very sweet and I would not buy it again. Could this have irritated her gut but just taken a few days to manifest?
Any advice / experiences would be much appreciated as I am a worried Mum!
