ds is turning red

ds went away on Monday with the school. Picked him up yest and he was a bit chesty, sore throat etc.

went shopping this morning and he complained that a cut on his foot was really sore. took a look and it was a bit swollen and yellowish.

took him to a&e and they have done an xray and there isn't anything in there so they have given him antibi's just incase.

since we have come home he is saying he feels really ill. his temp is 37ish but he is bright red all over. not like a rash, it's all over.

the doc at the hosp took a look at him as he had what looked like prickly heat on his tummy but thought he was ok.

he is 9 and has been ill loads of time before but never seen this.

i'm not sure if i should take to docs again or should i just keep on with the pain relief/anti bi's?

Def keep on with anti b's, but I would take him back to see a doctor..it sounds odd.

When were you last at the hospital?

If the doctor didnt see the redness when you were last there then I would take him back, especially as he says he is feeling much worse.

Allergy to ABs? My dd goes red all over - like tomato soup - if she eats certain foods. Go to A&E - in case

we were there about 2pm.

no, the doc didn't see the redness, just a bit of a spotty patch on his chest. that has now gone.

he has just asked for a bath.

i'll call nhs direct and see what they say.

ooh, didn't think of an allergy!

he hasn't had these ones before so it's a possibility i suppose.

Take him back to hospital - could be a reaction to the infection or the abs - either way it should be looked at.

go back to A&E....if it is allergy (and it does sound like it...I go bright red on certain AB's when allergic), he needs treatment.

Exactly psycho - ab reactions can be very, very serious.

My dd had the all over crazy red rash. It was diagnosed as an allergy - but yes, looked very scary, suddenly appeared in different patches and SO red... We never did find out what caused it... A high dose of Piriton sorted it.

With teh antibiotics and the other info, I wouldn't hesitate in taking him back to A&E. They have always told me they'd rather see them tbh. Good luck, hope it gets sorted quickly.

all settled (for the night i hope)

by the time we got there the symptoms were almost all gone. he was still a bit flushed but was much perkier. doc had a look at he thought it might be worth giving an antihistamine just incase. he also changed the antibi's to one that ds has used before.

will keep an eye on him tonight and see how he goes.

thanks all.

THat sounds very reasonable. Don't hesitate to go back if anything changes and tell your GP about it so that he can log it as a query reaction on their computer system. It most likely won't be the same one the hospital will have updated.

i did think that lurker as i stupidly forgot to take a note of what the antbi's were. will make an appointment for him anyway, he seems to ill all the time lately.
