Strong smelling urine in 3yr old

Hi,

I'm taking my DD to the doctors this week but just wondering if anyone had any ideas on this prior to going?

My DD is 3. A few weeks ago she was complaining of pain in her tummy and she kept weeing in her potty a little bit at a time but every 5 minutes. (We are currently potty training)

I took a sample to the doctor to be tested and he put her on antibiotics for 2 weeks. She finished the course but I never got a clear answer from the doctor about her results. Firstly it took over 10 days for them to get the results back, then all I was told by the lady on reception was for her to keep taking the antibiotics and she said there was nothing else written down on there?!?

Anyway I have noticed that her urine smells quite strong. It sounds horrible but almost a bit like that smell you get when you walk through a public passageway where people urinate a lot - almost like a kind of stale urine smell.

A couple of times she has said she has a sore tummy but other times when you ask her she said she doesn't.

Do you think this sounds like she still has the infection or could it be anything else?

Thanks

Sounds like she still has UTI. I would take her to the doctor.

All the symptoms of a UTI. Did you give the doctor a clearance sample (a sample about 4 days after she finished the anti bs?) to check the infection cleared? Take one with to doctors and ask for it to be dipped in front of you so they can give results immediately. Then if they think it shows a UTI ask them if they will culture it to find out what bug it is as sometimes they need to give difference anti-bs.

What is her temp like?

UTIs not nice but if dealt with early are manageable. If she keeps getting them ask for a referral just to check she has not 'kinks' in her waterworks that might make her more susceptable. Nothing serious if she has but may mean that she needs to take more care than other kids.

Hope it goes ok.
