MiL has been telling DD about scary dragons. She now wakes regularly at night now saying bad dreams mummy, dragons eat me up.

So can anyone help me find a book, preferably a board book, about nice friendly dragons, suitable for a 2.3 year old.

Zog is a great book by julia donaldson about dragon training etc.

My 3 yr old ds really likes Zog, by Julia Donaldson. Not sure if its available as a board book. Its lovely to read aloud though.

Oops, cross post!

Also recommend Zog, really nice story and great illustrations.

And Zog!

Aha, I have that in paper format, she's a little hands on at reading time and regularly rips books, so we've been going down the board book route recently.

Will hook it out for bedtime.

Would appreciate anymore suggestions too.

When The Dragons Came

You'll be able to find it cheaper than on this link I should expect, but basically everyone moves out of town because of the Dragons, but then the Dragons turn out to be really nice and helpful, and were just misunderstood. smile

Tell Me A Dragon is a beautiful book of pictures of all sorts of dragons and a line about each of them, totally gorgeous, we've been looking at it since DD was that age.

Usbourne Touchy-feely hide and seek dragons by Fiona Watt is a good boardbook. There are brightly coloured pictures and, as the title says, there are flaps and tactile bits to the book.

We have one called Too Hot To Hug - not sure who it's by but WH Smith had it in recently cos that's where we got it - again, story book not a board book though.

And Zog.

(Daddy likes books with dragons in so I either buy 'em or he'll carry out his threat to read a 1year old The Hobbit and the entire LOTR trilogy)

We have 'When Dragons are Dreaming' by James Mayhew and Lindsey Gardiner out of the library at the moment, it's the last story DD (2.8) has before going to sleep, she loves it. It's got fairies and a baby dragon smile

BobblesAndClips Tue 02-Apr-13 22:00:38

Ah, it's not a board book though, sorry

Knight time, lovely book about cute boy who is scared of dragons.

I read Zog, on request, to DD (6) tonight. She's had it for 3? Years now, still loves it.

Zog is lovely. There is a series called Florrie's Dragons on Disney Junior with friendly dragons too - very sweet, my son (3.5) loves it.

Dragon in A Wagon (although that's more about a dog)
Sir Charlie Stinky Socks has a non-scary dragon in it too.
Mike the Knight.

dennis the dragon is nice and it rhymes too so fun to read with wee ones.

Again by Emily Gravett is a good one - it's about a small dragon being read a bed-time story.

Sorry, just read the 'boardbook' bit - this isn't one. Although, bit of a faff, but you could contact paper pages to stop her tearing non-board books (this is what my DM did when I was small and had a habit of eating the bottoms of the pages. blush )

What I Found in Dragon Wood. By Gwen Millward? Can't remember, sorry!

Thewhingingdefective Fri 05-Apr-13 00:01:24

Timothy Knapman and Gwen Millward.

"Three cheers, Charlie Dragon!" is quite popular with my 2 year old. Although she currently has Gruffalo fever. smile

That's not my dragon.

The Worst Princess. May be a bit old for 2 - my 3yo is just beginning to enjoy it. Basically a feminist fable in which the princess ditches her prince and runs off with a playful dragon instead.

Knight Time is lovely and gentle, about how people are scared of dragons, but dragons are also scared of people, and then they all make friends. It is very sweet.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder Fri 05-Apr-13 00:31:36

Idris the dragon from Ivor The Engine is a lovely friendly dragon - not a board book unfortunately, but appealing enough to conquer any fear!

Custard the dragon by Ogden Nash. Who couldn't do with some Ogden Nash in their life ?

Just had a quick check on Amazon and you can get the Zog story as a board book for under a fiver!

We love it in our house. My DS has had it since just after he turned two and he is obsessed with it, particular the bit where a bear appears to be biting Zog's tail. The illustrations are nice and the dragons all look friendly and a bit dopey - nothing to upset your DD here. Also a great message, particularly for little girls, in there too.

again again - erm can't remember the author and someone might have already suggested it - haven't scrolled through. lovely book

Periwinkle007 Fri 05-Apr-13 22:05:19

or there is a book - tell me a story daddy, again can't think of author. I bought it in a discount bookshop and it is a little girl and a daddy making up a story about her dragon toys

What about Florrie's Dragons? It's a TV program but I'm sure there must be a book??

monkeymamma Thu 11-Apr-13 22:14:55

George's Dragon by Claire Freedman! It's about a very, very nice dragon indeed. No one could be scared of dragons after reading it!

DuchessofMalfi Fri 12-Apr-13 12:49:03

We've got this one at home - The Princess and the Dragon which is about a wild princess and a gentle ballet and music loving dragon who swap roles.
