Best books for a two year old?

Hello

dd2 is about to turn two and getting more and more interested in books.

Current favourites:

Handa's Hen / Surprise
Ten In the Bed
Going On A Bear Hunt
Each Peach Pear Plum
Brown Bear Brown Bear
Maisy books

Any recommendations for other books to add to the collection?

Starting to wish I'd written down the titles of dd1's old faves as I've forgotten them all now.

thanks in advance

Meg and Mog are very popular here, and anything by Julia Donaldson.

Naughty Bus is the best book ever (well, possibly not, but it's the best book that I never see recommended).
So Much is a lovely cuddly book.

The Rough Guide To Children's Books age 0-5 is invaluable (out of print and 8 years old but worth picking up 2nd hand from Amazon).

DD loves a book called 'pants' it by the guy that does the illustrations for the jacqueline wilson books! its really funny she giggles the whole way through!

Another funny book mine giggles through is called 'my dad is a dog' lovley bright colours and fun to read together!

Also the 'guess how much i love you' series - in the summer, autum, spring and winter.

Also loves the books about lettuce the rabbit!

Have you seen the pop up version of the bear hunt? If your dd likes the normal one she will love it! It is quite simply fab!!

Another vote for Julia Donaldson - my DTDs got a box set with The Gruffalo, A Squash and a Squeeze, The Kindest Giant in Town and Monkey Puzzle for their 2nd birthday and it was an instant hit. They still like those books and they'll be 4 next month.

My dd is obsessed with Dear Zoo. We have about 5 copies stashed around, and she never seems to tire of it.

Emily Gravetts 'Apple, Pear, Orange, Bear', 'The Odd Egg' and 'Dogs' are fabulous

Click, Clack, Moo is excellent, and all the Hairy McClary ones too

DD is just 3 but we have recently got 'I'm not cute!' from the library and it's such a massive hit I have bought a copy. It's lovely.

Also the Julia Donaldson ones, especially Monkey Puzzle. And Giraffes Can't Dance - we have the paperback and the popup, popup is fab but a bit delicate for very young children.

Meg and Mog also go down a storm - look out on The Book People for cheap sets of childrens books.

At 2, my DDs loved this series of books because they were very sturdy and interactive.

My DD also loves Handa's Surprise. I can recommend some of the other Walkers books titles that come with the DVD. We are reading 'Some Dogs Do' every night at the moment and DD also loves Owl Babies, although the DVD makes her cry. I would give another vote for Monkey Puzzle and also the Hairy McLary books

lots of great suggestions. thanks.

Will dig out the Julia Donaldson ones from dd1's old stash - I had thought dd2 was too young for them but will def try them on her.

I went today and bought Owl Babies. She's a real mummy's girl so I think she'll like it! Also bought You Choose, which I suddenly remembered dd1 loving at nursery. Really interactive...

Will check out some of these other suggestions too. Especially Pants as she's potty training at the moment and is just getting into wearing them.

thanks again
