really need a realy good book on 'how things work' ..

he's 5 mrs muddle, but very nosy about all range of electronic scientific stuff and our current book is about 20 years out of date...

anything up to about 8 age range would be okay i think, good vocabulary and range of interests

My ds loves this book, he has had it for a few years now and used to pour over the diagrams, now he read the words too. He is now 9.

From archimedes screw to jet engines. It is very good. We have others too but he is probably asleep on them so I daren't rummage just now. The Macaulay one is the one he shows me the most often.

Mammoths explain everything.

will admit i was bit thrown by the mammoths! and DK books can be a bit, well, photo on white and dated looking now..

our old one covers everything from tv transmitters to toasters, microwaves, doorbells, automatic doors, locks etc
all the everyday stuff, clearly illustrated in clear illustrations..but profoundly out of date..
which i could just find an update to this series

This one is all drawings. Very Heath Robinson, which is what I grew up with.

I've got a DK one in the jumble sale bag at the moment. It's maybe a bit advanced, but I'm happy to send it to you. I'll see if I can find it on Amazon and you can see if you're interested.

It's a hardback, and the dust cover is a wee bit tatty, but it's fine under that.

This is the best description I can find. It's from 1995, and not sold on Amazon. If you want it, I'm happy to post it tomorrow, although it may be a bit advanced.

It covers things like electricity, helicopters, skyscrapers etc, and there's an experiment for each subject.
