Recommendations for 7 yr old boys?

Hi, I live outside UK and dcs go to French school. I can't pop into Waterstones for great recommendations, and don't have the right sort of school gate chats.

DS1 loves reading and has devoured Roald Dahl, Beast Quest, and Chronicles of Narnia (the last with a bit of help).

Can you recommend me other series or titles that I can order? He thought Harry P too scary.

He might like Jeremy Strong , the Jack Stalwart although it may still be a little old for him , Enid Blyton's Secret Seven, Magic Treehouse series, Horrid Henry series

Cressida Cowell's Hiccup the viking series were a fave of DS at that age.

He also loved Paddington and the Jeremy James stories by David Henry Wilson.

Thanks very much. Secret Seven is a great idea, no idea why I hadn't thought of it.

I'm sure he'd love Horrid Henry by Francessca Simon. Have you tried Mr Gum series by Andy Stanton?

I live in Scotland but my children go to Gaelic school so there is a parallel there!

There's Dinosaur Cove, similar to Beast Quest. Ds loves both.

My 7yo is reading the first Harry P just now - he comes to me with an occasional hard word but is quite enjoying the 'kudos' of reading it - he reads it on the school bus! The first couple aren't really that scary, I don't think. Just a bit crap!

Also second Horrid Henry (for me, scarier than Harry Potter ), also Secret Seven. Dh also has a complete ancient set of the "Adventure" books by Willard Price which ds thinks he will like as well - don't know if they are still available?

Ds also likes reading magazines - he gets the "Match of the Day" one cos he is very into the footie at the moment and will sit absorbed for ages reading all the little facts - he loves little facts. I now know more than I ever thought I would about Lionel Messi, that's for sure!

Just checked - you can still get Willard Price, see for e.g. here.

Just been on phone to dh, who says Hardy Boys are good as well, but not sure if they are a little bit too old - dh, I know, was a very precocious reader.
