Not now (she's too old) but when dd was small we would have welcomed a very gentle every day sort of chapter book for reading out loud along the lines of Milly Molly Mandy, Alfie & Annie Rose etc but up to date. There may be some but we didn't find them.

However, I have a friend who is an author, and apparently in her experience publishers want excitement and action and don't go for every day life

What sort of age range do you want to write for? My DD (aged 2) currently enjoys stories about trains, cars and real life type scenarios reflecting events in the daily lives of other toddlers.

DGD aged 9 is a voracious reader and loves all the Jacqueline Wilson type books. The usual girly stuff with a bit of excitement thrown in goes down a treat.

I buy books from the market for her and in one lot there was a book by David Wilson (dont think any relation). It was a set of stories about a boy called Jeremy James. He is about 5 I think and lives with his Mummy and Daddy and twins siblings in a very nice suburban house. Jeremy James gets into scrapes but thy all end happily ever after.
DHD loves these stories .Its not so much the content (DGD is a mixed race ,1 parent, inner city girl) but the writing that attracts her.Proper stories in a humerous listen with Mother style.

So not so much a theme as a style that hse likes

bit late to this one sorry. my DS (5) likes "faction" books - maybe a story that teaches you about something eg. history, human body, that sort of thing but that involves children like her

Ds1 (3.4) likes books about dogs and tractors (partly because they feature a lot in his daily life, I think) plus trains, cars, diggers etc.
