There is a lovely (but sad) picture book I have read to 8 year olds about the holocaust. I think it was called Rose Blanche. Will try to find it.

Maybe a bit old for her yet...more because of the whole background to the story than anything in the book itself iyswim

Dont see why not - if she is interested in the story and you think she would be ok! I was about 9 when I read it. I was 10 when we covered WW2 in school and I was glad that I had read it.

I read the Diary itself when I was eight - some of it went over my head (mostly the bits about periods and boys, tbh!) but I really enjoyed it and it stoked my interest in history and WWII in general.

DH and I have watched the programme with DS2, who is almost 9. He was fascinated by it, and although the ending upset him, it has led to lots of thought-provoking discussion - he has asked for books on the subject now, which is always a good thing! It depends how sensitive your DC is, though.

I think the original is too old however there are shorter versions, picture books etc which serve as a gentle introduction.
