Any way to find out if a book is going to be reprinted? (the book is Tim and Tobias if anyone has any great ideas)

Ds is starting to read, and I think he'd love these. It is exactly his sort of thing.

BUT BUT BUT apparently they are out of print and there are no plans to reprint.

I was wondering if it is possible to contact say the publisher and find out? Would a publisher respond to a question like this? Would I speak to a minion with no idea anyway?

Thoughts please. There was a reprint but they are all sold out (have tried various websites-a few are showing as in stock but then I get an email saying...sorry)

IIRC they are Harry Potter in reading book form. But they are on abe for shock £60 shock

Fillyjonk Wed 03-Dec-08 16:11:20

seriously, no one knows?

Fillyjonk Wed 03-Dec-08 17:19:01

bump?

LostGirl Wed 03-Dec-08 19:18:01

I remeber reading these, and loved them, much more interesting than Kipper and co. Sorry, no real help as I imagine you have already searched on amazon (out of stock but can order, thought that doesn't mean they will ever get any in!). Bumping for you, and thank you as it has been bugging me for ages what these books were called.

LostGirl Wed 03-Dec-08 19:31:33

Cheapest I have found was... £46, still a little excessive perhaps? Also found a copy of Billy Blue Hat for £44.44, bargain!! grin

Could be worth contacting the publishers, you will never know if you don't try, and perhaps you could ask why they stopped printing such a great series and replaced it with such a rubbish one which my poor dd (and I) are having to suffer through!

Best of luck with your quest.

Fillyjonk Thu 11-Dec-08 19:10:35

I have it! Yay!

it was at waterstones online, I ordered it just after this thread and it is now in my hands!

they had to order it but it was (obviously) very quick

yay, it is, as I remembered, very good

what series are you struggling with, lostgirl?

tim and tobias at waterstones

LostGirl Thu 11-Dec-08 19:28:54

I don't have any, your message reminded me of them and how much I had enjoyed them as a child and I started searching through my usual sites/shops to see if I could find any. I'm confused though (not unusual for me blush), the waterstones website says that the book is 128 pages long. The ones I am thinking of were about 32 pages I though, half a page picture, half a page text. Am I on completely the wrong track and searching for something totally different??!! hmm

Fillyjonk Thu 11-Dec-08 19:32:25

ah the waterstones one is a compendium i think.

will check and post back

LostGirl Thu 11-Dec-08 19:39:34

Total bargain if it is for only £4.95. Is it the first series?

I run the Tim and the Hidden People website (am currently doing some extra work on this so is only partially viewable until after the New Year)www.timandthehiddenpeople.moonfruit.com
I assume you can only be talking about the McCullagh Publishing reprints? There are no plans to reprint these at this moment as Caxton/Mercury now have the copyright and If I recall correctly Tim and the Hidden People were low on the list of McCullagh books to be reprinted (if at all) with a time scale of several years involved in any case.
McCullagh publishing have few copies left if you'd like me to forward the details to them?
The new Caxton reprints look even less likely to happen now, I cannot go into specifics here, but some of the first McCullagh books to be reprinted by them are already out of print. I know people who have waited several months for copies and had their orders cancelled.
It is a terrible shame - they are excellent books!

mrswoolf Sat 27-Dec-08 20:46:59

The McCullagh Publishing reprints info for you. They are indeed 128 pages long:
Book 1 contains the whole of series A,
book 2: series B, book 3: series C and
book 4: series D.
Books 5 - 8 for older readers remain in
the same format as the originals.

1) Tim and Tobias: Magic in the Wind, ISBN 0954735005
2) On the Night of the Full Moon, 0 954735013
3) Three Fires on the Dark Tower, 0954735021
4) Wind Witches and Stone Men, 095473503X
5) Tim and The People of the Moonlight, 0954735048
6) The Wild Witches and the Talisman, 0954735056
7) Burglars in The Yard, 0954735064
8) Magic in the North, 0954735072

mrswoolf Sat 27-Dec-08 20:54:09

These reprints above have been slightly textually reworked (to fit into 'book' format rather than the original reading scheme) and have black and white illustrations.

The must haves are the 70s/80s originals. There are 32 of these 32 page books. They can only now be found second hand and can be very expensive overall (we had to pay £60.00 for Tim and Tobias A1 alone).

These of course have all the original text and delightful colouful, atmospheric and nostalgic illustrations:

When will the site be working again, I still cannot access it?

mrswoolf Mon 24-Aug-09 02:08:46

Sorry, the site has been down for several months. Have been busy with new baby etc!
I've just accessed all the site emails (not dealt with yet!) which prompted me to update here.
It is only partially viewable, badly in need of updating but still accessible all the same. I shall endeavour to remedy the first part as quickly as possible.
I'll search out McCullagh Publishing contact details and find out latest on reprints, as this is biggest concern for most people. They did have a few copies left, last I checked.

hiya mrs woolf....i've tried signing up for the 'hidden people' website but it's not letting me in for some reason.
going back to what you's were on about earlier....i've noticed that the original 32 tim and the hidden people books (4 8 book series ABCD) have been reprinted as 'magic in the wind', 'on the night of the full moon', 'three fires on the dark tower' and 'wind witches and stone men' and these are all going for silly money on amazon and ebay.

i also noticed that there were 4 novella books for older readers (which i haven't read yet) called 'tim and the people of the moonlight', 'the wild witches and the talisman', 'burglars in the yard' & 'magic in the north'. the first of these seems very difficult to get hold of thus is going for silly money like the earlier 4 but the following 3 can be purchased for around £5 from the likes of waterstones or wh smith etc. it seems like them 3 are still in print but the others aren't for some strange reason.

i don't know if any of you's are interested but i also wouldn't have minded getting hold of 'the griffin pirate stories' also by sheila mccullagh for a similar nostalgic trip down memory lane. now i know that there was 20 books originally (2 10 book series) but i'm not sure if these have been reprinted into 2 larger books or not. if anybody as got any information on this or where i can get hold of any of the books i mentioned earlier it would be much appreciated.

Hi all,

I was just wondering that if anyone has the full set of the Tim and the Hidden People Collection whether they would consider making PDF books from the originals; as I personally have struggled very hard to be able to find the vast majority of them all.

(I lost them in a recent house move) and now am having to trawl the internet to try to find them, on eBay thay are selling for what can only be called rediculous prices.

I'm sure it would help many people out there if these books were available as PDF's.

knackeredmum1 Sat 08-Jan-11 21:53:16

Hi All

I have done an audit of the books I have. If any of you are interested in buying.

I got them from a school that was closing down so they do have school stamps and a sticker on the spine but they are in good or very good condition

Hello,

I am very interested in getting hold of these books because I loved them as a child and would love to read them to my children. If anyone has any spares or is willing to sell them please let me know.

Thanks very much

MrsvWoolf Sun 24-Apr-11 00:36:26

The original 70s/80s books are so expensive aren't they? I paid £65 alone for Tim and Tobias A1.

Our website is going back up soon (am still transferring data from the old), cannot believe how old this thread is, was talking about two year old dd, the new baby.

Oh, McCullagh publishing are not publishing any more. I think is in the hands of Mercury. Timescale for Tim books (and this delayed) is years away. I will check.

MrsvWoolf Sun 24-Apr-11 00:41:37

Abebooks.com is sometimes good for finding the books, though some are overpriced. As is ebay.
We bought some of the reprinted pirate books from WH Smith, but had to wait several weeks for delivery. Seems to be shorter waiting time at the moment.

There is one of the Tim paperbacks (for older readers) for sale too:

Just in case anyone is still looking for information on the tim and the Hidden People books I've started a website at http://timandthehiddenpeople.net . It's got as much information as I could find on the books all collected in one space. I have a few of the pages of some of the books available to view as well. If anyone can help me out filling in the blanks that would be great!

Jeej2008 Mon 30-Dec-13 21:07:23

Hi you still got any books left

dazlynne Thu 20-Feb-14 14:42:08

I have the whole four series' a b c and d, as well as the extended books, if anyone are still looking for these books and would be interested in purchasing them, I can put a buy it now on to eBay.

acfc1 Sun 09-Mar-14 21:47:17

I would certainly be interested, if they haven't been snapped up already?

Kind regards
