what can you tell me about the 'magic kitten' series?

Saw them in the Red Book catalogue, a series by Sue Bentley about Flame the Magic Kitten. Much sparkle and pinkness is in evidence.

How do they compare to the Rainbow Magic fairies for readability, popularity etc? I am trying to find something which 'hooks' DD but want to avoid endless stories about being popular/unpopular with the girly gang.
TIA

I think they're about the same. My DD has read both series and I think she prefers Magic Kitten.

They are very similar to Rainbow. Sickly and anodyne but harmless and very popular with the 5-7s.

Thanks. There only seem to be 3 of them , unlike the interminable Rainbows, so I will take the plunge.

They will have you ready to throw yourself off the nearest tall building.

Or maybe that's just me ...

They are dull as ditchwater, repetitive and predictable. But as Rosa says they are harmless - and I guess reading something (however anodyne and vomit-inducing) is better than nothing.

There are much better books out there though.

Hmm, LongMeg, it's hard to know what to do. There are wonderful books in the world, but my DD doesn't want to read any of them. I was hoping these would encourage her to see chapter books as something she could enjoy.

My dd liked them last year when she was 5. there are about 12 now and each is pretty much the same, but they are definitely not as bad as Rainbow Fairies IMO

My dd got into them last yr when 5. She also loves Rainbow Fairies, Magic Unicorn, Magic Ponies etc - anything fluffy really. I would say they are slightly more challenging than the fairies books, but very readable for a keen 5/6 year old.

We have recently introduced dd to Harry Potter, and it is so much nicer to be talking about Dobby the house elf than Flame the kitten bizarrely lol!

Seriously though, they are a good bridge to 'better' books, and at this age, it is about them wanting to read - anything - so I'd go for it if I were you...

Dd likes Mermaid Rock as well, Orinoco. They're more tolerable - and they also have a different plot line for each book (unlike Magic Kitten and the interminable Fairy books).
