Secret kingdom but harder

My DD 8 doesn't struggle to read but is only just starting to see that it is enjoyable to read a book. She says that she likes to read the secret kingdom books but these are a little easy for her now. Does anyone have suggestions for similar in terms of story but a bit more challenging.

Copying from primary education to see if there are any other ideas. She particularly likes the fact that the character goes into a different world

I don't know much about these books, my DD was a rainbow magic girl, so I looked up their Lexile scores to decide what to recommend.

How about the Circle of Magic books by Tamora Pierce? (Note avoid the song of the lioness books by the same author unless you are OK with sex references. Most of the rest of her books should be OK though)

Or the Princess Acadamy by Shannon Hale

If she'd be OK with a hero rather than a heroine then I'd look at some of Garth Nix's books for younger children (Sabriel and the other old kingdom books which have a heroine are probably too much for an eight year old).

You might also consider some of the more gentle epic fantasies if she has staying power (David Edding's Pawn of Prophecy would be a good one to start with).

How about the Rescue Princesses series?

Have you looked at Ottoline or Goth Girl?
