Hi there, this has probably been done before but I want to build a nice collection of books for my toddler. What would you recommend?
TIA

Some version of a picture dictionary
Any Julia Donaldson

Oops, sorry. It should read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do you See? by Eric Carle

Imfinehowareyou · 20/05/2016 20:18

......and Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell and Oh Dear by the same author.

Moogletea · 20/05/2016 20:19

These are the most favoured in our house

The tiger who came to tea
Snappy birthday
Going on a bear hunt

parrotonmyshoulder · 20/05/2016 20:20

The elephant and the bad baby

AgeOfEarthquakes · 20/05/2016 20:22

To add to the list above, my children have enjoyed:
The Hairy Mclary series
Barry The Fish With Fingers
5 Minutes Peace
The Elephant and the Bad Baby
FunnyBones
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
Owl Babies
Goodnight Moon
Charlie and Lola series (the ones actually written by Lauren Child are better than the ones written to accompany the TV series)

Thank you for all of the suggestions. We have some of them covered already. I have made a list of the others!

The what's it postman, with those letters..
A book of nursery rhymes. Lavender's blue has a brilliant range but the pictures aren't in colour, so I'd get two...

I'm thrilled to see the elephant and the bad baby.. I thought it had disappeared and we were the only people who knew it...disconsolately going rumpeta rumpeta rumpeta all down the road...

The full set if the Beatrix potters, available from the book people at a fraction if the RRP
Mog

Place marking this thread!
Some awesome suggestions Grin I think most of our favourites have been mentioned already.

Imfinehowareyou · 21/05/2016 09:39

I can't believe I missed out The Tiger Who Came to Tea Blush

The Mog books by Judith Kerr and any by Jill Murphy (especially The Large Family ones).

cuntinghomicidalcardigan · 21/05/2016 09:43

My dd enjoys the Shirley Hughes books, especially as it is a big brother and his little sister, she likes to compare to herself and her little brother. 'Dogger' in particular is a favourite.

MissesBloom · 21/05/2016 09:43

Aside from the obvious ones (tiger that came to tea, going on a bear hunt etc) ds loves Dinosaur Poo. We have to read this book every night he loves it on much.

parrotonmyshoulder · 21/05/2016 11:15

I'm not keen on most Julia Donaldson but adore 'Jack and the Flum Flum Tree'.

'Owl Babies' is great as they start nursery or childcare - 'the baby owls closed their owl eyes and wished for their mother to come...and she came'. Makes my DC turn to me for a cuddle every time.

evelynj · 21/05/2016 13:33

All the above and one mole digging a hole, maisy books, I'm the best, aliens love underpants & yy to Julia Donaldson. Also, not now bErnard. Great book!

Moogletea · 21/05/2016 17:07

Ohh I forgot 'there's a lion in my cornflakes' and 'go tell the toucan' both big favourites

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 21/05/2016 17:10

You choose and Just imagine were favourites here from about 2+.

grounddown · 21/05/2016 17:11

My shouting day, the best story ever. I laugh out loud every time I read it. Found it in sainsburys for £1.99
My DC often stop each other mid tantrum and say 'look it's your turn to have a shouting day' and they both fall about giggling.

RatOnnaStick · 21/05/2016 17:15

Hugless Douglas is a favourite here, also anything by Oliver Jeffers - Lost and Found, How To Catch a Star etc

ipswichwitch · 21/05/2016 17:15

Aliens/Dinosaurs/Pirates Love Underpants.
Meg and Mog
The Gruffalo (or any Julia Donaldson book really)
Is it Bedtime Wibbly Pig?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
That's Not My..... series

angelopal · 21/05/2016 17:23

Giraffes cant dance is a favourite here at the moment.

jessplussomeonenew · 21/05/2016 17:54

Mr Brown can moo (Dr Seuss) is a particular favourite here - particularly now DS makes all the noises!

Leeds2 · 21/05/2016 17:59

Commotion In The Ocean
Rainbow Fish
Princess Smartypants
Amazing Grace
Percy the Park Keeper
Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs
