Children's books

Can anyone help me please?

My daughter saved her pocket money and pre-ordered a book. She took it into school to show another friend who wasn't able to get it and another child took it, tore some pages, bent the edges, drew on the cover and generally made it look like it had been chucked down the stairs.

I am wondering if there is anywhere where you can buy a new cover or if there is any genuine reduced books sites on line? She paid over £10 for it and I would rather not have to fork out the same again.

What's the book? Is it not on Amazon?

It is but too much money, I want just the cover or much cheaper.

Mind you, DD has just been very rude so I am not looking to bother now.

Bloody kids.

You could ask the publishers. They might help.

Would also have a word with school about what had happened. That is really not acceptable behaviour. School will probably say that she shouldn't have taken the book in but, given that she had, another child shouldn't get away with destroying it.

Contact the publisher and tell them what happened. They will probably send you a replacement for free. I would and I'm a publisher !

If you can find someone who has the same book then you might be able to photocopy it. I've done that with a couple of collectable books I have, where someone has photocopied the dustwrap.

If it's out of print, you could ask Topsy Turvy books if they have a copy they'd be willing to do that for (they will charge) if you explain what happened.

I did speak to the school about it and they immediately said it didn't sound like her Hmm. Told me to calm down basically. I was very calm Hmm. Both children were spoken too and the "culprit" cried, barely apologised and the staff member said they will say no more about it. No offer to replace.

Meanwhile the book looks awful, DD is really upset and I just feel so sorry for her as she really cares about her books.

She has only had it three days when it was damaged Sad.

I will email the publishers, thank you.

I did look in the shops today - softy- but even though it has only been out a week there were no copies anywhere.

That's a poor reaction from the school. Sad

If you say what the book is the power of mumsnet may be able to help you find a copy? I'm intrigued as you said it's sold out (didn't think that happened to anything other than new Harry Potter releases Wink).

I have tried Asda, The Works and Whsmith. It only came out in hard back last Tuesday.

I have emailed the publisher to ask if I can buy a new cover but haven't heard back from them yet.

DH is refusing to buy another copy but I had already said I would get her one before I saw it and now I have seen it I am even more upset and definitely want her to have another. I just can't pay the £10 it is atm.

Just a thought but can covers be easily replaced nowadays then? I have many hardbacks that are held together with Sellotape Blush. Won't you need to take it to a book binders (if that's what they're called) to replace the cover?

It is the paper cover that has been damaged, plus of course she has torn several pages half out too Angry.

Why would someone do that? She was sneering that my DD is obsessed with this series.

Well better my child be obsessed with reading than a vandal Hmm.

I bet someone on mumsnet has got an unwanted copy that they could send to you. What is the book?

I haven't heard back from the publisher, not even a sorry we can't help email. Disappointing.

It is a very new book so wouldn't want to take someone else's copy.
