Just comment the answers, really appreciate the time you've taken to fill it out.

I’m doing a Child Development GCSE course. My course involves finding research on how much children read; therefore I have to ask a number of parents about their experiences of reading with their child who is between the ages of 3-4. I’d appreciate it if you are able to fill out my questionnaire, as the feedback would be very helpful for my course.

This is based on my younger brother
1.How often do you read to your child?
Twice a week

2.What are the names of some of the books your child enjoys?
The Magic Key and the Far away tree

3.Does your child enjoy reading?
he doesn't enjoy reading himself or when you ask him to spell words out. But he likes listening to you reading

  1. If the child has been read the story several times how do they react, i.e. do they remember words or join in with the sentences?

He doesn't tend to read the same book multiple times because he has a very short attention span

5.What type of books does your child prefer to read?

If other please state below
He likes to read grown up books when he can listen to them and they have a basic story line he can follow along eaisly

6.What does your child enjoy most about books?
He enjoys listening to them and falling asleep to him but he'd much rather watch a movie with his mum.

7.What type of books does your child prefer?
He doesn't really care

8.Can your child read independently/would they choose to read independently?
he can read some words but tends to want other people to read it to him.

Hope this helps you greatly

My children are too old now for me to do your survey, so I am bumping it up for you.

  1. Every day, several times a day

  1. At the moment she prefers fairy tales, Mog books by Judith Kerr, Mr Men books, any stories about new babies as she is about to get a new sibling

  1. She loves being read to. She constantly asks me to read and has for as long as she has been able to say 'read this, Mummy.' She can't read by herself.

  1. She knows the words, even in some stories she has only heard a couple of times, and will correct us if we accidentally miss a word or read it wrong. She doesn't tend to join in with sentences though.

  1. Anything, all of your options and more (sorry if that ruins your survey results!)

  1. Short sentences

  1. Paperback or hardback. She doesn't really mind.

  1. No, she is only just beginning to recognise some letters and the sounds they make.

She is almost 3 1/2 yrs old. Hope it helps.

Hi, my 12 year old daughter (year 8) has been told by her English teacher to read a Gothic book over the half term. She hates this kind of book and is struggling to find anything to read. She is top set so would have quite an advanced reading age. Any ideas of any Gothic teen books? Something not too dark and ideally more modern day - if such a thing exists! Any ideas?
