He lacks confidence but can read and enjoys tucking up in bed with a book. He's 6 and I want to give him something with an easy to read font and good story to help him gain confidence.

Any recommendations??

My dd is reading the horrid henry early reader books. She's finding them easy enough to read and she enjoys the stories.

The Twits (Dahl), Beast Quest (Adam Blade) or Spy Dog (Andrew Cope)? Beast Quest and Spy Dog are series books so great if they get into them and want more. Dahl is great for kids who lack confidence as the stories draw them in so much they end up not thinking so much about the actual task of reading. For football fans Frank Lampard has done some fiction books, which are popular with less keen readers.

Try ...

Fortunately, the milk! by Neil Gaiman

Oliver and the Seawigs is another illustrated chapter book, more advanced than Neil Gaiman's.

Usborne Young Reading series 1 and possibly 2 depending on the content (my 2 didn't like the subjects in series 2 or I felt they weren't old enough for them yet)
some of the Dick King Smith books are good, quite short too.
Humphrey the Hamster - not read them but they look fun.

Oooo have a look at Dixie O'Day to from Shirley Hughes and her daughter Clara Vulliamy. Fab characters, the next one in the series is due out very soon.
