Our book arrived this morning. DH and I really liked it, the illustrations are lovely.

DS6 wasn't so keen, but couldn't tell me why. I think he going through a 'dislike and disagree with everything' phase. sorry!

Our copy arrived yesterday - thank you.

It's a beautiful book - a fitting tribute to the subject matter. The drawings are gorgeous, very detailed and imaginative. I loved the one that illustrated the pilot's recommendation of following the face of the landscape - a lovely literal interpretation.

I also really liked the text, and the way that it combined a simple overview of the story in a couple of sentences at the bottom of each page with loads of little details scattered throughout the illustrations. They are like annotations on a technical drawing, letting the reader skim or explore at will.

The story was well pitched, explaining the historical context of events. I learnt a lot about Antoine de Saint-Exupery and found it really interesting.

I will be passing the book on to DS1 now, and will post his review soon.

I think it is beautifully illustrated and made me want to find out about the book the little Prince. I think it is an interesting idea to introduce a biography to children and that makes an interesting change of perspective. My daughter was not keen initially but I think perhaps when she is older she will appreciate it more.

What a beautiful book. Thankyou so much.
I loved the mixture of historical fact and biography written as prose. I will read my copy of The Little Prince to DS and then this book. He will like the fact and story mix.

Thank you for our copy of this book. The first thing that stands out are the beautiful illustrations which my children loved. They were also very interested in all the facts contained in the book. Overall a lovely book and thank you.

Thank you for the beautiful book. Currently I think DD is a little young to appreciate it - she has a very short attention span for anything at the moment but I am sure in time I will get all the way through it with her.

I like the way that as she gets older she will come to get more and more out of the book as she will be able to read the information in the illustrations as well.

Makes me want to get the Little Prince.

I was thrilled to see this on the mat this morning. It is a beautiful, beautiful book that shall be treasured in time for my grand children that are just a twinkle in someone's eye at the moment.

It really appeals to adults, the sense of nostalgia along with the beautify illustrations and endearing story make this a classic to treasure, thank you so much!

Thanks so much Mumsnet for the beautiful book. I think my 5 year old loved the pictures more than the text and my very "facty" 7 year old found it interesting. It wasn't what I was expecting as it was very detailed and I was expecting a fiction story rather than a non fiction biography. I would suggest that it be bought for a child who really appreciates non fiction books and perhaps has an interest in aviation.

I agree totally about the beautiful book. Thank you so much. My DD was not so interested but I was enchanted by it! Maybe when she is a little bit older she will enjoy it more. It's definitely a keeper. A lovely one to give as a present.

Thanks very much for our copy - both DS(6) and DD(4) are huge fans of 'Am Prionnsa Beag', the BBC Alba series of 'The Little Prince' (they are NOT gaelic speakers, but don't let that hold them back from enjoying the programme Wink )
As soon as we received it, they had a good look through it with me. I think that DD was a little young to appreciate the detail or much of the historical aspect of the book...she was expecting to see the snake etc!
DS was quite absorbed by it and we spent a while discussing several different bits of the book. It was especially great that it did spark some discussions about history/aviation/France...we kind of went off on a tangent and I think any book that can inspire interest to that extent is one worth having. Hello and thank you for our copy of this wonderful book. What a great idea to use a picture book as a biography in such an inventive and clever way. The illustration was amazing - it was like the type of art that should be hanging on walls. I work with designers so I appreciated this a lot! I'm not so sure my little ones felt the same way but they are slightly young for the concept I think. I was nearly in tears at the end!

Agree it would make a beautiful gift but not sure what age group to suggest. The nazi planes and the idea of WW2 makes me think older rather than younger but I'm not really an expert on that sort of thing. It would be a good way to introduce these themes to older children though. A fascinating life story to send shivers down your sp

Sorry, busy fingers. I got cut off mid-sentence!

I had never heard of 'Antoine De Saint-Exupery' before reading this book...Now I feel like I know everything about him! ;)

My favourite book growing up was my big children's encyclopaedia! It was purple and had information on SO many things that my little brain just wanted to learn it all. I would sit and write out whole paragraphs of it. And paraphrase chunks just for fun! Reading this book took me back to that time! With the beautiful illustrations and the diagrams and the general layout of the book, you don't feel like you're reading a biography. It is stunning and I shall hold on to it until my son is a little older to take it all in.
