Has anyone's dc read the Skulduggery series? I have bought a couple for ds's 9th Birthday.

Have also bought The Indian in The Cupboard trilogy because I enjoyed it as a child but I can't remember what age I was when I read them.

Derek Landy's series is soooo popular with boys of this age group!!

The Skulduggery series has funny combination of fans - mix of 9+ boys and teen girls! It seems to offer different benefits to each audience.

DL is v funny in the flesh and the children really take to him because in spite of the fact he is insulting them at every opportunity. Word of warning, as with all these things - the series gets darker as the story progresses, so you might want to check your DS will be OK with the subject matter.

Ds loves them - he was 9 when he started them. I love them too - witty, well written, good female role models in a 'boys' book! They defn novel e mild peril - but ds is fairly easily scared & hasn't been freaked to date.

Agree re strong females - hence the attraction to teen girls, I think, as well as younger boys looking for an adventure/fantasy story - but I think the two audiences read the books slightly differently iykwim.

DD1 was very keen on Skulldugery books at 12ish (she didn't realy learn tk read until 11 and couldn't have enjoyed them at 9)

My DS loved them around 11 or 12 I think. He borrowed the talking books and played them out loud after he finished the series so we both listened to them.

I forgot about this post. Thanks for the feedback. I will have a read first but I think he will be ok with slightly dark.

I love how much he loves reading, I always had my head in a book as a child.
