Recommendations for DS(9) who's run out of books to read

He's got a good reading age. He's read and exhausted the following:

Wimpy Kid
David Walliams
World According to Norm
9th Grade Ninja
How to train your dragon series
Captain Underpants

He's tried and rejected:

Skulduggery Pleasance
Alex Rider
Young James Bond
Lemony Snicket

Apparently he likes books about people's lives and not adventure. I'm inferring that he likes character-based books rather than plot-driven.

I'd rather he read something a bit more challenging than just more Wimpy Kid-style books (although I realise that reading what he wants to read is better than not reading at all). At the moment he's not reading anything as he can't find anything to interest him.

He seems to like the same books as my daughter, she has also enjoyed the Judy Blume Fudge books ( starts with tales of fourth grade nothing), she also likes Michael Morpurgo.

Secret Benedict Society books are fab and Lauren St John series (can't remember if that's the author or main character - sorry!) are loved by my DD.

What about some older books - adventure seems to be the popular thing right now, so if he prefers more character driven stuff then that might be better? Swallows & Amazons if he's not put off by the length are pretty easy to read and great stories (plus 12 of them if he likes them!)

Also maybe Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder is really good and about a 9 year old boy, he might also like the main Little House series. Also the Family from One End Street books might appeal.

Michael Morpurgo books are all about people's lives and there are loads of them.

My son likes similar books and has just worked his way through all the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series. He also enjoys Harry Potter. He's now trying a few adult scifi books - Ender's Game (wants to see the movie) and reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy with his Dad.

Another funny series is the Andy Griffiths one about Bums. Bumbageddon is one of them I think - those might be up his street.

Another funny (and modern) series which dd enjoyed is the Rugby Zombies books, can't remember author, sorry.

I'd second older books or those with a historical slant - my 9 yo isn't into the fantasy / adventure stuff so beloved of his 10 yo brother but has loved

Has he tried Michael Lawrence books? Nudie Dudie is one title...I can't remember any more. They are funny and real-life based rather than adventure / fantasy.

He might like the Artemis fowl series by Eoin Colfer, they have quite interesting characters.

Stig of the Dump by Clive King is a superb book.

Skellig by david Almond is another very memorable book that he might enjoy.

He might like William Mayne perhaps, he wrote a lot of books, earthfasts is a good one.
