Dd's read every single animal book she can find plus masses of fantasy and says she's running out of things to read (zero interest in vampires etc and wasn't keen on Hunger Games)

She's v keen on drama - any recommendations for good books about theatre/drama school etc

There are lots of books about theatre school. Dd has a lot of them. The Olivia series by Lyn Gardner for example.

Noel Streatfirlds Theatre Shoes is very good, better than bsllet shoes.

There is another book too but Id need to look in dds room & she's asleep at the moment.

Lyn Gardner is a theatre critic by the way.

If you can get them the Blood Door Theatre Company (Pamela Brown) are good, if a little old fashioned. Both my dd's loved them.

There's also Painted Garden (May have been released as something ridiculous like Movie Shoes) and Party Frock (again re-released as party shoes, i think) by Noel Streatfield. I think the other one I'd recommend by her is Curtain up, but I think that was the one Painted calls Theatre shoes. Thursday's child and Far to go also by Noel Streatfield also have theatre in them, although it's more of a secondary story.

Some of the Bannermere Series (Geoffrey Treese) are about them doing drama-I think it's Black Banner Players and Black Banner Abroad. Also The Crown of Violet is set round the theatre in Ancient Greece. Cue for Treason also involves acting and Shakespeare even appears!

The Secret Hen House Theatre by Helen Petets which was shortlisted for last year's Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

Swish of the Curtain by Pamela Brown. Might have to have a reread right now.

I would definitely recommend The Secret Hen House Theatre too. Really quite a wonderful novel.

I was going to suggest the Painted Garden too DeWe. My DD loved it - it was my old copy so didn't know they'd changed the name!

ballet Shoes was one of my favourite books as a child. I particularly remember the chapters where the children take part in A Midsummer Nights Dream and Alice in Wonderland, I could read these chapters over and over and pretended I was the characters reading it aloud. I would think she might enjoy this.
