I wondered if anyone had any good recommendations for books for a two year old which show positive female role models. I have googled but it is always good to get personal recommendations. Thank you :)

Zog is the first one that comes to mind. I'll trawl through dd's bookcase and let you know what else I come up with!

Thank you. I have never read Zog although have heard of it many times. I'm not quite sure how I have managed to avoid it!

Never heard of Rosie revere engineer, sounds great.

Thanks again 2berornot & Elletorro

Alfie - an evening at Alfie's, the teenaged (female) baby sitter helps fix the leaky pipe.

Dogger - Bella is very kind, very good at sports and she and her mum wear funky 70's non-gendered clothes Smile

Apple Tree Farm - "this is Mrs Boot, the farmer" Mrs Boot is also the guard on the train. There is a Mr Boot, but I'm not sure what he does.

Topsy and Tim and pretty gender neutral, iirc.

Most of our books are about animals, but some of the animals are strong females Smile like Miffy (builds scooters, gardening with grandad, knitting with Grandma) or gruffalo's child (goes off exploring on her own, 'I'm not scared")

...is a gruffalo an animal? Anyway...

Then when she's older, my favourite, Pippi Longstocking!

Character books, like Octonauts and Fireman Sam, have some string female leads! Not so much thomas the tank though.

Oooh thanks Anniemousse too. I read Miffy earlier to DD2 and it didn't cross my mind about her actually. How funny.

Some of those I have seen and not clicked about the role models which is a bit embarassing.

THanks again, will check out the first two as I have not heard of those before.

Rosie's Hat is a lovely book for a 2 year old. Rosie is a firefighter.

Me and dd love reading it.

Maisy mouse books are lovely for toddlers and she is not a pink or girly mouse!

Princess Smartypants is hysterical but not a 'worthy' female lead Grin

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I am just amused by the title Cinderella's Bum. Off to check that one out along with the others. Maisy Mouse did not spring to mind but a good point.

Cheers ;)

Can't think of any which stand out in my mind- is that worrying or is it that my memory is not what it was since 3 children!

Harry and the Dinosaurs - its Nan, mum, older sister Sam and harry in the household, so mum and Nan do everything and in one book the girls at school play football equally

We have 'this rabbit belongs to Emily brown' its very good. Emily goes on lots of make believe adventures and stands up to lots of men who try to take her rabbit on behalf of the queen. Then she bollocks the queen and teaches her compassion.

Dd ready enjoys it.

The Worst Princess is brilliant, funny and right on the case. She rejects the Prince to ride around on the Dragon having lots of adventures.

Try the website 'Mighty Reads'. It's American but you might get some books available here too.
