My DD is 9 and has recently read all the Lemony Snickets books and The Never Ending Story. Her had is reading Harry Potter to her and her younger brother. Any recommendations?

I bet she'll love Clarice Bean.

There are quite a few books in the series and they're very good indeed.

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase etc by Joan Aiken
The Green Knowe series by Lucy M Boston
The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper

were some of my favourites about that age.

My DD loves the Tom Gates series by L Pichon and pretty much anything by Jaqueline Wilson.
Also Clarice Bean, plus the Ruby Redfort books, a Clarice Bean spin-off, which are intended for slightly older readers but your DD might like if she's a good reader.

Wonder if my DD would like Lemony Snicket... will try.

I'd second The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper - brilliant books!

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell?

The girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making - or something like that (it's a long title to remember! but good book)

Thank you so much for the recommendations! DD already read Clarice Bean and didn't like Ruby Redford much. I have ordered The Wolves of Willoughby Chase from the library. Unfortunately they don't have The girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making, would love it, it looks great! I don't buy many books for DD as she reads them so fast. All other recommendations are on the list!

I also used to enjoy Jules Verne at junior school.

Penelope Liveley ghost stories are good fun.
Eva Ibbotson is also good.

Just read Goth Girl to DS1 (6) - we both enjoyed it but he'll get much more out of it in a few years. A primer for Terry Pratchett and Jasper Fforde.
