My 9 yr old DD has devoured pretty much all the Enid Blyton Series of books, Famous Five, Secret Seven, Five Finder Outers, Adventurous Four, Six Cousins, The Island Series, St Clares, Mallory Towers. She has also read the Helen Moss Adventure Island Series. She only wants to read books that come in a 'series' because if she loves a book she likes to read more in the same vein. She has just started The Penderwicks and I am already thinking about what I can find for her next! Please recommend me some non-scary series of books.
My daughter sounds similar, she's just turned 10 and she enjoyed Enid Blyton books and The Penderwicks.
Other successful series: Harry Potter Emily Windsnap The Tales of the Frog Princess Ruby Redfort Pippi Longstocking My naughty little sister (maybe a bit young now) Killer Cat A series of unfortunate events The Inkheart trilogy Scream Street Diary of a Wimpy Kid
She was looking at the Olivia series by Lyn Gardner the other day, about a girl who goes to stage school, want to have a closer look before I buy any though.
Lauren St John's 'Laura Marlin' mysteries are brilliant. I love the way Laura is written-a strong, intelligent girl.....1st one is 'Dead man's cove' and set in St. Ives. I gave it to Year 4 as a gift when I left my headship and they had to make their next teacher (in Year 5) promise she would read them the next installment! Warrior Cats seem to have many series to them, by Erin Hunter. 'The Mysterious Benedict society' by Trenton Lee Stewart is really unusual-great if you like mysteries and different to Secret Seven etc. Take a look at www.storyshack.org as i try and put recommendations on there and also love it when people recommend too :-)
