Can anyone recommend a good counting book that goes beyond 10? It needs to be suitable for a 4 year old so perhaps one that does up to 50 and has interesting illustrations.

365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromentak and Joelle Jolivet is a lovely book. My dd (5) and the boys I look after (both just 4) love it. Lots of ways to use it.

Counting Birds by Alice Melvin goes up to 20. There is a rhyming text about the course of the day, so starts with 1 cockerel waking up and ends with 20 birds on the bedroom curtains being drawn. People don't feature, though, so the atmosphere feels slightly odd. The illustrations are varied and graphic, but not detailed with extra things to spot.

I've just been to a bookshop and I thought of you!

It goes to one hundred and has those full of detail Richard Scarry pictures.

We've just got 365 Penguins from the library. Not exactly counting but plenty of numbers and an amusing story.
