Long shot -
I have an old copy of this book from my childhood & was thinking about reading it to my two sons. I've just found though that it's missing the first 8 pages! (Most of chapter 1). Is there anyone who can help - give me an overview of what happens at the beginning? It's out of print otherwise I'd buy a new copy, but there does seem to be a CD out there so someone might be able to tell me what happens before Rebecca falls into the telescope?

thanks!

I'd never heard of this book till my mother in law bought it for 50p from a book fair a few years ago for my daughter (Rebecca). We read it and I think I enjoyed it more than she did actually, bit too young to understand it. On flipping through the book one night, I realised that not only was it in excellent condition for its age, it's a first edition signed by Terry Nation!!!! Cannot believe it was missed by the bookseller! A couple of similar ones were being sold on Amazon a couple of years ago for about £500.00!!! eek - rush to put it in a padded envelope!

Yes I do! DH bought a copy for me as I loved it so much as a child.

It is very very special to me.

He got it from ebay for £25.

I own a copy as I taught it as a text to my first ever class as a teacher in the year 2000. It is a great book, so funny and exciting. I loved reading it to them. smile

Gosh, v excited to see this thread again with a connection to the author!

Loved this book and am just biding my time till I introduce it to DD. I've made the mistake of introducing some of my favourites to her too soon (she's only 6 and didn't enjoy the first chapter of the Little Princess or the Animal Family so we have given up on those for now). She will love Rebecca's World when the time is right.

The one with the Larry Learmonth illustrations is the one to look out for I think.

Oh I have a charity shop copy of this, thought I'd get rid of it is it wasn't as creepy as I remember it being (it really weirded me out as a child). Off to find it and ebay it tomorrow...

I've been after a copy of this for years but it's too flippin' expensive.

We had it read to our class at school in the 80s and it's stayed with me. Great book.

This was one of my favourite books too. Thanks for reminding me.

I had a copy, which was kept at my nan's. I loved it. Unfortunately it has gone walkabout to her local charity shop I suspect. I will treat myself to a copy when I return to work.

Wow can I just say, a huge thank you all for this thread, for years I have had a strong memory of a book I borrowed from the library when I was a girl. All I could remember was a girl called Rebecca and something about trees in a weird land. Nobody has ever known what I was on about until now!
Such a shame its out of print, I will have to get hold of it somehow smile
