What is your/your childs favorite childrens book of the moment ?

What the title says really. Mine is When you Reach Re by Rebeca Stead. It is based on A Wrinkle in Time which was my favorite book in the 70s.

Are there any you would recommend preferably age nine upwards ?

My 10 yr old is currently passionate about the Percy Jackson series - eponymous boy, but good strong female characters too. (I'm reading them too, and now know more about the Greek myths than I ever did before).

What a bizzarre coincidence - I bought "A wrinkle in time" yesterday, in Foyles whilst waiting for a train - I'd never heard of it. I'm half way through - it is a surprising read. I am enjoying it .. My girls have never read any sci-fi, so I picked it up to challenge them to try something different.

DS (aged 8) still obsessed with Harry Potter - re-reading for the zillionth time. Also a huge fan of Percy Jackson and Alex Rider (that's who he dressed up as today ).

8y DD is really into Harry Potter at the moment, although actually prefers listening to Stephen fry reading them on audio CD as she says he is much better at the expression than she is :)

And having read part of an old Choose Your Own Adventure type story she found at my parents house, she really wants more of these but they are quite hard to come by.

Terry Pratchetts 'Tiffany Aching' books though I'm waiting for the latest to come out in paperback so DDs current book at bedtime is The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents. (DD is 12, not sure all the Tiffany ones would be suitable for a 9 year old - they get older as she does)

Me and my DD1 (7) love the Tiffany Aching books, and we're trying to get her to warm to the Percy Jacksons. She's interested but not overly so.

Eva Ibbotson series are a surprising hit too, dark comedy seems to suit her!

She went as DEATH (Pratchett) for WBD, DD2 (5) went as Mog!

Oh, and to answer the question (sorry OP!). My DD only a tiddler at the moment but she loves anything that involves lifting a flap or something shiny on the page. (But I now shudder when I see a title beginning 'That's not my...) As a child I loved The Faraway Tree and The Wishing Chair books by Enid Blyton, rather than the Five and Seven series.
