7 Yr old boy, needs some inspiration re: fiction

Hi

My 7 year old boy, with reading age around 9-10 years, is struggling to find fiction books he likes.

He loves Roald Dahl, and quite enjoys Jeremy Strong, but nothing else really grabs him.

He will read non fiction (particularly history and science) until it comes out of his ears, but I am a bit of a loss with fiction. I have tried all the books I read at that age, but he can't stand Enid Blyton and is left a bit cold by C S Lewis (think he's still a bit young). Won't touch Harry Potter.

He says there's nothing left in the school library he wants to read, and brings the same Roald Dahl books home each week (even though he has very well thumbed copies at home).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have found (in the primary school where I teach) that boys of this age really love the Beast Quest series by Adam Blade. they will probably have them in his school library or alternatively your local library will probably be able to order them in for you(they don't usually charge for children's orders).

Another possibility is the Diamond Brothers series by Anthony Horowitz, very funny and quite a bit of reading for a 7 year old to get stuck into. Also Varjak Paw and its sequel(series about Kung Fu for cats).

If you'd like any more ideas, please feel free to PM me.

My boys are 6 and 8 and LOVE Mr Gum. They also enjoy the Terry Deary fiction (as well as the Horrible Histories factual books)

Mr Gum very popular with my 8 year old too, and also the Tribe series by TM Alexander - lovely funny stories about a group of ordinary kids at primary school.

Willard Price?

I'm told Blyton haters love Arthur Ransome, so could try that?
