A good book to help 3 y old settle into preschool??

Or am I kidding myself that there is a book for every situation? DS will be three in a couple of months and is down to start preschool, one afternoon a week at first, in a couple of weeks. I've been talking to him about it and he's pretty resistant to the idea.

Any nice books about the 'experience' that are aimed at 3 y olds? I know about the Sarah Garland one and have it on order.

You can get peppa pig books personalised to your childs name, we got one that was about dd1's first day at pre-school with peppa. She loved the book, though not sure how useful it was for preparing for pre school!

I didn't use a book (infact I didn't think of that idea), but when Timmy Time came on the tv I talked about it being a pre-school and that Timmy went there with his friends and played and had a snack etc etc.

Ah, Timmy Time! DS seems to have taken against it recently though. I'll try that, certainly. I wonder if you can get other character books personalised? (Hmm, if only Thomas the blardy Tank Engine went to preschool!)

Yup, think they do the full range of kiddy characters I think. If you can't find it online, I can find dd1's book and have a look for the publishers name for you?

My children both liked the Usborne First Experiences Books. There is one called Going to School.

Also your local library should have a whole shelf on 'experiences' for children. I have always used them rather than buying books.

I did look in the local library but the only things they had were aimed at starting 'big' school, not playgroup/preschool, and it was all about having people hear you read, doing work in exercise books, etc.

Lukewarm, if you're still around then yes please, would love to know the publisher!

On a different tack - do you know anyone whose child is already going to pre-school or big school? I found that helped DD1 get excited about it more, the thought that she would be doing the same as them. Peer pressure is a marvellous thing...

Don't worry though, even if he's horrendous settling in, he will love it after a few weeks. DD1 was awful to start with, but its her second term now and she skips off without even saying goodbye!

I posted a very similar query here last year, my 3 year old DS was also very resistant to pre-school!

Got some good suggestions here and went for Maisy Goes to Pre-School,Topsy and Tim Start School,and Harry and the Dinosaurs Go to School. They didn't have any focus on reading/exercises etc and were all about the experience of being in a pre-school type setting, fun things you do there, being dropped off/picked up etc.
