lying in delivery bored! so thought I'd post on MN. I've been getting contractions for a couple of weeks, proper ones they could feel but no fibronectin and cervix was fine. been none stop since, really. normally I become irregularly regular in the early evening, kept awake until about 4am when I fall asleep exhausted. Sunday I woke with them and again Monday. I had decided Monday evening it was time, went to loo and had a show.

positive FFN and 2cm dilated at hospital they started steroids and nif-thingy. transferred quickly (still local) and mw asked them to speed it up as I was starting again. mum said she was being left behind at 70! got here and I was 3cm 3/10. they have prepared the room for him but still talk about my next doses, they've written up a name band with Tuesday's date.

just wish something would happen now either way.

Hi confuddled hope you're feeling ok, must all be stressful. Great that you've had the steroids, so if baby is going to put in an early appearance he/she has the best support.
Have you got a name sorted?

HDee Tue 18-Dec-12 07:38:01

I hope the nifedipine does it's job and baby stays where he is for a little longer.

Every day he spends in the womb, is a day less in hospital.

Have you been to see NICU? At 29 weeks baby will probably be close to three pounds and do very well, but it can be very scary first time you go in. For some reason something in my brain is telling me you have had a premature baby before?

Good luck.

Bearandcub Tue 18-Dec-12 07:38:39

Good luck! Hoping all goes well.

Oh sweetheart. Adding my good thoughts and wishes for you and little one.

I hope it goes well, when it happens! xx

confuddledDOTcom Tue 18-Dec-12 09:40:01

had the first dose of steroids but need the second for it to work. need to hold on for another day and a half really. scratch that, they've decided to do next dose as they do it differently to my hospital.

this is my 4th time (5th with my born too soon babe) so I think that helps the nerves. my 31 weeker didn't get steroids and she's done pretty well. I'd prefer to get past 30 but I'm pretty close if it goes off.

confuddledDOTcom Tue 18-Dec-12 09:42:14

oh and he was well over 3lb so my biggest baby by %ile. should be pushing the 4lb mark by now.

I hope everything goes well today x

last of the drugs in an hour. I'm expecting a quiet night followed by going into labour in the morning. I think I tried today but then the drugs kicked in. he's quite low now, not sure how dilated because they won't do a VE as they don't want to risk starting me off. I can easily touch him though (shh don't tell them wink) and on Monday they couldn't see him with a speculum (see the tall girls thread from a few weeks ago) so lots of change. I don't want him out early or wish this on him, but I'd just like it all over with now sad

confuddledDOTcom Wed 19-Dec-12 21:24:59

I think even if I go tonight I'll still be over the 48hrs as it won't be quick and I'm sure he won't suffer for an hour.

OodKingWenceslas Wed 19-Dec-12 21:26:13

Good luck!

OodKingWenceslas Wed 19-Dec-12 21:28:18

I've copied over to FB for you

rhondajean Wed 19-Dec-12 21:29:56

Good luck! I went into labour with dd2 at 29 weeks. Had the steroids and held on for three weeks more. I remember how nerve wracking it was.

She's such a healthy little thing now at 8. Just lie there as long as you can - I know it's painful, uncomfortable, stressful and boring, but 48 hours from those injections does wonders.

Are your other three kids okay? I don't know your history sorry, is their dad looking after them, any worries about him getting time of work etc? It all adds to the stress.

Mibby Wed 19-Dec-12 21:30:45

Good luck, hope he stays put a bit longer or you xx

kurlyvoice Wed 19-Dec-12 21:33:26

Thinking of you lots, confuddled, and hoping that he's not too impatient to meet his mummy and can stay in for a bit longer. Thanks for keeping us updated - we're all rooting for you both! x

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire Wed 19-Dec-12 23:46:12

Wow! You are so calm! Lots of positive vibes coming your way, take care. xxx

confuddledDOTcom Wed 19-Dec-12 23:55:52

being on the drugs has only slowed it down not stopped it. I'm still dilating, plug is still coming away etc so I don't think he'll go longer, especially with my history, I don't hang around.

the others did amazingly well out of their gestations. onlythe later two got steroids because we were expecting it by then and with the introduction of FFN between we got in earlier. I'mkicking myself for not getting checked over the weekend, I'd probably have bought more time than slowing down early labour. the others are at my parents. Dad had this week off anyway so could cover school runs. my oh is staying with his mum as the hospital I was transferred to is local to her, so we don't have to worry about children (just TAs, which is a current running theme hmm you may have noticed!)

Ebb Thu 20-Dec-12 00:57:47

I know I should be hoping he stays put for a while longer but 20/12/2012 would be a fab birthday........ grin Wishing you all the best.

Startail Thu 20-Dec-12 01:43:32

confuddledDOTcom Thu 20-Dec-12 15:06:26

I was bored, they'd stalled it and left me on my own and I couldn't sleep.

looks like things are picking up now. all doctors are in theater so we're waiting for someone to come and see me when they're free. still early labour but it's strong and regular so not likely to change now.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights Thu 20-Dec-12 15:07:13

Confuddled I hope you are both OK today x

OodKingWenceslas Thu 20-Dec-12 15:33:36

just quickly. he was born at 15:45 weighing 3lb 9oz paediatrician weighed him 4 times to be sure! he was coming out in the bag but decelled so they cut it and he shot out and landed on the removable end (they're glad they left it!) he's breathing on his own with a bit of cpap.

Jacksmania Fri 21-Dec-12 17:38:43

Congratulations Confuddled, and what a fabulous weight!!! How are you feeling? So glad he's breathing on his own.

HDee Sat 22-Dec-12 08:18:57

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. Great news that he didn't need ventilating.

I'm a little astounded that you would give yourself a VE though knowing that things were happening.

ChasedByBees Sat 22-Dec-12 09:16:17

confuddledDOTcom Thu 27-Dec-12 00:47:07

Thank you everyone and sorry I haven't got back to this thread. I ran out of credit in hospital and then we've been either at the hospital or at my parents as they've been looking after the older children during all this, and of course Christmas.

Anyway, he's doing absolutely amazingly well! He was breathing for himself but on CPAP for a couple of days, they started weaning him after a day and by 2 days old he was breathing air. He had a day under the lights, but looking at his chart today it looks like it was a very low threshold, he is still at the same number but because there's a lower threshold early on it doesn't look like anything now. They started to feed him yesterday as he was getting stressed and trying to suck his thumb(!) he's only on a tiny amount as he's still getting IV fluids, he's very slow to digest it but he's more settled now.

HDee, I didn't do a VE. I could feel from the outside he was quite low down and used one finger to feel how low. I was on a trial for a drug that they think might help known preterm mums (I'm guessing placebo or it didn't work for me hmm) and can't normally put the capsule in the whole way, so I knew that one knuckle was quite far down.

confuddledDOTcom Thu 27-Dec-12 00:50:42

Oh and then my OH left some things in the car Christmas Eve (despite me telling him I wanted them) and when he went out in the morning the boot wasn't properly closed - our car doesn't lock if any door isn't closed properly - and my laptop and handbag were missing sad so that's kept me off line for a couple of days.

TanteRose Thu 27-Dec-12 00:50:55

wow, fantastic that he is doing so well smile

what's his name?

hope you are doing OK

Congratulations on your new arrival, hoping he goes from strength to strength as quickly as possible xxx
