Braxton Hicks - confused...

Hi guys. I finally realised what BHs were last week when I started noticing them. Anyhow, most evenings I seem to get quite a few. However, tonight they are about 5-10 mins apart and I get a lot of pressure down below and get period like pain and a touch of back pain. This has been going on since about 6pm. Is this normal? It's really starting to bug me - I can't seem to get comfy at all. I can talk through them but feel like they take my breath away...

Any thoughts appreciated - Sus, x (38+5)

Not sure - sounds like the start of something possibly, or just your uterus really preparing.

BUMP

This happened to me every evening for a week before I finally popped!!! But the good thing was that all those niggles took me to 4cm dilated without me really knowing!

All sounds good Suzi... just watch for them getting steadily stronger over the next couple of hours.

How exciting!?!?!?

If they get regular and move closer apart you could well be in labour.

Thanks. Well they stopped overnight (after a few big ones in the night). Woke this morning to awful diarroeah (sorry TMI!) and a bit more mucus discharge (have been getting it for weeks). So I thought that was it! But nothing has happened since and it looks like the BHs are about start up again for this evening.

Very annoying! I bet I still have 2+ weeks to go!

Hi, I also experienced bh's and everyone told me that they shouldn't hurt, I even went into hospital concerned because they hurt..well don't believe anyone when they say the don't hurt..they do!!!
I was getting them from about 20+ weeks and towards the end most evenings they would come quite regular and quite painful..so much so I remember having to stop what I was doing..It felt & looked as though baby was trying to curl up into a ball & push her feet out while in my tummy..LOL.!
Personally I think they are a good thing and I agree with toothache, I also got to 4cm without knowing! In fact my labour was 10hr 50 mins with only gas & air....I'm sure the bh's prepared me. Hope all goes well when the big day arrives. xx

Susi your experience sounds a bit like mine - woke up a couple of nights ago with HORRENDOUS BH's and had diahorrea afterwards - went to see midwife and she said it can happen with a gastric virus that your bowel spasms trigger uterine spasms too, but nothing to worry about.

I am suffering from BH's this time too (31 weeks with no. 2) but I'm hoping I'll be fully dilated on my due date without realising it...

Diarroeah could also mean labour is about to start.........so I have heard anyway.
